Okay ladies, I love all of the LIW Girls, but I thought it was time that we have a thread dedicated to African American Brides, so that we could discuss wedding and non-wedding related issues that are significant and or relate to women of color. So to start the thread off, could everyone introduce themselves? I am Landra...

Are any of you booking a shuttle for your guests from the hotel to the ceremony/reception?
I am planning to transport guest from CH to RH and back because my ceremony is going to be in brooklyn and my reception is going to be in long island. I have not looked into this as yet. I have been falling behind lately
we are planning to do the same since 99% of our guest are coming from Brooklyn, and both our ceremony and reception are being held in LI. We found a few companies that want $1000 to pickup our guests in brooklyn, take them to the church, and from the church to the RH, and finally back to brooklyn. Let me know if you find a really affordable company, and i will do the same...
I would def let u know.
Please do share. My FH's guests are mostly from SI and he's really concerned about how they will get back and forth. I don't think it should be our concern but if there is a suitable option it's worth considering.

well for my FH's dad, i got him some socks that say 'father of the groom', and i also want to get him a nice watch...something he can really use. Havent put much thought into what we're going to get him mom. And when it comes to my parents...my dad and i do not speak to each other (so that takes care of him), and my mom and i arent close at all...so i'm not getting her ANYTHNG!! I know it sound mean, but she really was not a good mother to me....

We gave our GM's an engraved pen and cufflinks - Other ideas include money clips, gift certicates
For our BM's I brought their jewelry for the day of and I filling their bags with little things like lotion, candles, slippers, etc... Other ideas include spa certificates, frames

Any suggestions on something my FH and FMIL can do instead of the traditional mother son dance at the reception? She has a bad hip so he doesn't want to have the dance. My father was not instrumental in my life so I'm going to do the bride dance with each of my uncles. FH is upset that I'm doing that since he can't so I want to give him some options.

We didn't do the father/daughter dance because my dad died in 1995. DH mother has MS, so she wasn't able to dance with him. So we just didn't have that part in our wedding.

In really like this idea. Maybe he can ask her to come up and he reads it to her, or your FH can read go to her seat and read her the poem.

well FH is definately doing the mother/son dance since his parents are going to be coming all the way from Poland....but i am not going to do the father/daughater dance since my dad is not in my life anymore. We are just going to have the one parent dance and thats it...

well for my BM's i have (so far) little makeup bags from victoria secret along with some very sexy perfume. I will definately be giving them the jewelry, and i was thinking either the BM tee's or maybe monogram tote bags....but its all about what my budget can afford....can 't really afford to be toooooo over the top
