Re: Official African American Brides Thread
I'm hoping to do a trial with her in a few weeks. I'm going to try to schedule it for the same day I have a wedding to go to...kill 2 birds
I'll try to remember to post the pics when I go. She's done my makeup in the past and I like what she's done. She's done full coverage for a wedding I was in a few years ago on down to very light and natural for a wedding I was attending last summer.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
I am booked with Jae richardson for my make up. I did 2 trails with her, 2 different looks and i love what she did. She uses all MAC products and does traditional and airbrush. She is amazing at what she does and just a really great person. My regular hair person is doing my hair and all of my girls hair for the wedding. I've been going to her for years and would never put my hair in anyone elses hands. She has her own shop in baldwin.
I booked After hours for DJ. Our MC is the owner Phil and out dj is carlton who just happens to be haitian. FH is haitian and i am from panama so a good mixture of music was very important.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
Ladies,I'm half blk/half puerto rican. So not in touch w the boricua side although everyone 'swears I speak spanish cuz I have long hair and I look spanish LOL' but anyways.
I'm an 80s baby but I definitely want to incorportate lots of old school music for my wedding strictly r&b and rap.. I was wondering did any previous ladies have a playlist. We're very young 22 & 24 will be 23 & 25 @ the time of our wedding but our generation music just wouldn't work. Too many curses and I want a diverse playlist like back and forth btwn old school and new school. If you ladies have a playlist please FM because I don't wanna miss the good songs.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
One idea might be to watch movies like 'Brown Sugar', 'Love and Basketball', 'House Party'(all of them lol) and see what songs you like from there. The soundtrack to those type movies SCREAM late 80's early 90's hip hop and R&B. I'm in the same boat as you so we're probably looking for similar tunes. I'm telling my DJ to make sure he has the edited versions of the more 'fresh' songs to spare my older or non hip hop loving guests.

A short version of that dress would be sick!! I love Latifah's style evolution!Photography: Patken
Florist: Pedestals
Coordinator: Francesca from Dazzling Affairs (LOVE HER)
BM dresses: Bari Jay
Colors: Eggplant, Chocolate with sage and ivory details
Theme: No major themes but I'm big on Adinkra symbols from West Africa. I have a tattoo of Sankofa and Gye Nyami on my wrist. Fell in love with them when I visited Ghana in 2006. My favors (bookmarks my aunt volunteered to make....and my mantilla veil too!) are going to have the Adinkra symbol that represents a good marriage on them with a little thank you and our engagement photo on it. I'm going to ask my vendor if the two complimentary ice sculptures can be carved into the shape of two of my favorite symbols! I'm excited!
Ceremony/Reception: Jericho Terrace
Dress: LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! All I'll say for now is lace is YUMMY!!!
DJ: Starlight Entertainment

Thanks! I just hope that I'm able to bring to life everything that's in my head. We'll see how that goes
Re-reading it sounds like I meant the mantilla veil would also have the symbols on it. I meant that my aunt was making my veil in addition to my favors.
What's up with everyone's honeymoon? We're planning on St. Lucia. I just need to stop procrastination and book already. I think I'm subconsciously waiting in hopes of prices decreasing. Yeah right

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
My DJ is haitian but my mc is white...not sure if that makes a difference to your FH. Music is a huge deal and with both of our families being from the islands it was 1 area we refused to save money on.

Re: Official African American Brides Thread
Hi!My FH is really on this whole things about getting black vendors-he things a black DJ will play the music we really want; a black make up artist will know the right way to do my make up. And now he wants us to try to find a black photographer because he thinks they'll really know how to capture us in our pictures! I'm like are you kididng me! All the work i'm doing just to find a good photographer in our budget period and now he wants to try to make sure they're black????
Anyway...do any of you know any really good black photographers? My sister recommended one to me that she wanted to use for her wedding...i e-mailed him last week and STILL have not heard back. the other one i e-mailed & got in touch with was way out of my budget. I will at least TRY to find one...if not we're going with which person gives us the best pictures for the best price!

That's so funny!! i'm the same way...I wanted a 'black' DJ also....I fear that anything would not really get the party going. I REALLY want everyone on the dance floor the whole night.

My photographer is not black but his photos are the main reason why we booked them. On his blog, he has A LOT of african american couples that he has photographed and everyone looks amazing. Check out LoveMorePhoto. Arek and his wife Elona are super sweet. Just google their name and his website will come out....check out his blog. HTH
