Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info
Do any of you ladies have opinions on make up artists at the wedding salons in Chinatown?I liked my trial at Eternal Wedding but it's really inconvenient for me to get to Flushing on my wedding day. I'd prefer to stay in Manhattan.
I already booked all my vendors. I just need a person to do my hair and make up.
I had a few trials with non-Asians and I didn't like the way they did my eyes. I prefer someone who is very familiar with Asian eyes.

We had our RD at East in Flushing. My MIL planned the menu but I was told it is every important to serve specific foods. Here is a website that has some information on traditions.

Thank you so much! What did you have as your full menu?
I wonder if I can replace the sweet buns at the end with a groom's cake.

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info
We had 11 or 12 courses, I can't remember. We had roast chicken, peking duck, lobster in garlic sauce, shark fin soup, a noodle dish, choy sum, ginko gwat (Cantonese name), steak, shrimp with mayonnaise, fish, and red bean soup for dessert.
My MIL speaks Cantonese so she coordinated everything for the RD. Unfortunately, I only know the names of the dishes in Cantonese and I don't know how to spell them!! LOL
If you have any caucasians attending the RD, you may want to consider giving them a printed menu that tells them what the courses include. I had a few guests who were picky eaters and wanted to know every ingredient of every dish.

East quoted us $685 per table. That's more expensive than I had expected. We'll probably end up paying for it but I was just wondering if this is a decent price.

Are you guys doing the tea ceremony? Is that just a Cantonese tradition?
Are there any other Chinese customs that I should consider incorporating into our wedding?
I'm not Chinese but my Fiance is. He seems to be very unfamiliar with Chinese wedding customs.

Our tables were $380 each. My MIL is a fierce negotiator and she has long ties to the people that run East.
I am not Chinese either, my husband is. My DH doesn't know much about Chinese customs, he grew up in Riverdale. LOL
We didn't have tea ceremony. I asked my MIL and my husband and neither one wanted to do it. I had no problem with it

I was told that two things are very important, related to the dinner. Make sure to eat long noodles and chicken. They represent long life and prosperity.
As far as traditions, I changed into a Cheong Sam after the cake cutting but that was about it. We made sure we didn't offend anyone by sitting them at table #4 and we didn't use white flowers / candles. Other than that, it was a pretty standard American style wedding.

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info
Hi thereI am the new chinese bride here. I kind of start my process late. My wedding is in Nov -2007 and I haven't booked my RH yet. Hopefully I can get this done soon.
Thank you so much for your posting. It was very helpful. I definitely will check out Enternal and Duet. Just have a few questions
1) I don't plan to have the studio pic. I am gonna have it done when I go back to TW for my chinese ceremony. Basically, I just need the video, photo and makeup/hair done for the day. Do you know if they have a package like that? If so, what's the price range??
2)Anyone has the reception in Jericho Terrace? Did you add anything Asian food in your cocktail hour? JT is one of the places I am considering. But I would like to get some feedback before I book the place.
Thanks

I had my ceremony & reception at JT. We didn't have any asian food but they did an awesome job on our wedding.

I personally don't trust American catering halls to serve good Asian food. We decided not to even have an Asian cocktail station. I've never had good Asian food at an American restaurant.

My reception was in the Oak Room and the chair covers were included. I wouldn't pay extra for them. JT offers an upgraded chair cover for purchase but the regular ones were fine for me.

I love your pictures. The skylight room looks very prettyAnother question, do you seat your in-laws with your paretns or they are at different tables?
Usually in the chinese wedding, all the paretns will be seated at the same table. But since my parents don't really speak much English and can't really communicate with my in-laws, I am wondering maybe I should just seat them at two different tables

I sat them at different tables. My husbands family was on the right side, my family on the left. Also, for the Chinese family, I made sure the most senior family members were together and they sat the closest to us. Since my MIL was the oldest child, she sat at the table with grandmother etc.
Also, I numbered the tables and I put the even numbers with the caucasian family so the Chinese family didn't have table # 4.

I totally forgot about the #4 issue. Thank you so muchI remembered you mention that you made sure you wouldn't have the white candle on the table. Did you ask JT to provide you different color of the long candles ( the one came with the package) or you just didn't use those candles?

Not to scare anyone... but a friend of mine just pulled out of her banquet reservation at East Manor (on Kissena... the big RH in Flushing). She says that her FMIL freaked out because of confirmed Health Code Violations, and East Manor was shut down for a short time...
Eas Manor is now under new mgmt, and she can't get her deposit back
. She will see if she can use it towards a credit on a future dinner party (not wedding-related).Can anyone confirm this? She also reports that they are under a number of lawsuits form some angry brides & co.
