Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Original post by KimberlyBride

Hi Ladies,
I want to start this thread so we can talk about DeSeversky and share thoughts and ideas. I know there are 2 others getting married at DeSeversky so far.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

JCam695 I hope the dress shopping goes well on Saturday. I am sure it will. I have never been to RK Bridal but heard it was great.

I am so psyched I got my dress today at Kleinfeld's!! The people were so nice there and I loved the dress.

The Mansion style wedding that was last Sat was actually a friend of my bother-in-law. I wasn't at the wedding but got some feedback. Everyone said the place looked amazing. The service was great. There only complaint was that they only kept the food out for 2hrs. Some of the guest were not aware that it was a continuous cocktail hour and therefore did not get much to eat. I am having a sit down but I guess if anyone is having a mansion style it would be good to inform your guests. I will definitely have more feedback I just have not had an opportunity to speak to my sister about it at length.
Hope everyone's planning is going well and congratulations in advance Kim.

Jcam695: I am going to either put white balloons on the sign they already have or put my own sign up. I agree I think it is very easy to miss. The first time I went there I passed it and the second time I was meeting my dad there and even though I gave him directions he got lost. I just do not want any of my guests driving around to try and find the place.

I like the White Balloons idea. . .do you think they'll give us a problem about this?

I was there for a charity affair and they had balloons all the way up 107

I do suggest hiring a vallet company parking was a nightmare!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

there was one valet company that we all need to stay away from, someone FM'd me with the name if you want to know. . . the brides guests were robbed!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I know Valet is included in my contract...

As for the sign on Northern Blvd...Debbie said NYIT is not responsible so if it gets knocked down or taken down, there's nothing they can do. But she also mentioned there was a sign out there for a few weeks last summer and everyone used the same sign and just changed the names.

I did find 2 dresses I liked at RK (one was really inexpensive!), but I am continuing to look. I may try Kleinfeld's too.

We are doing mansion style and were thinking of including a timeline in our program. this was one thing my parents were concerned about, letting everyone know that they will not be getting a sitdown dinner.

never thought about putting something out on 107, but now it seems like a really good idea!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

For mansion style, one couple had 2 menu boards set up (poster size but on thick boards). One in the front reception room and one in the back, in that middle room by the bar. The boards explained that it was a 'Formal Cocktail Dinner' and what food stations were in each room. And also what time the food and cake would be.

They had them made at kinko's but done very nicely. Debbie has easels we can use to display the boards. It seems like a great idea for us mansion style brides.

Yes, I had seen those boards when we booked. it is a good idea, but I think I want something a little more subtle. and since we are doing the ceremony there, I just thought I would kill two birds with one stone and put it in the program.
and since we are only having 110-120 people, I think most people will have heard it is a cocktail reception by then.

Good idea to put in the programs!

PS - I was originally thinking of your date, but you had already booked :) so we're the week after.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I had asked Debbie about the balloons when I booked and she said it was fine. She said that usually the florist provides them. However, she did say that if they pop or someone takes them DeSeverskey is not responsible. Which I think is completely understandable.
Also I have four valets included in my contract. I figured that would be enough and there would not be a need for an outside valet company.
Since I have booked I have met a few people that have gone to weddings there and no one said that the valet service was an issue.

Tyhe charity event we were there for didn't have a vallet so it was a HUGE ISSUE.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Well I am sure a charity event and weddings are organized and run quiet differently. My father has gone there for corporate functions and there were no valets. However, it should be stated in everyone's contract that valet parking is included. I believe Debbie told me the standard is three. We have four but that is because we are having 130-145 guests. I think that many valets can handle the number of guests. Also, as I said earlier in all the people I have spoken to that have gone to weddings at DeSeverskey they never had a problem. In fact many of my sisters friends were at a wedding there last weekend. It was a Mansion style wedding with a lot of guests and once again there was no problem with parking.

Hi girls,

I just booked my DOC- Laurie Savino. She's great! Totally ran down our contracts with us and gave me lots of pointers. I'm really happy with my choice!

If anything comes up in the meantime, planning wise, l will let you all know!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I'm sure we've been through this before...but I'm in a panic because I'm a bit behind and don't have time to go listen to 20 some-odd DJs. Who does!?

Does anyone have any recommendations for DJs that they are either using at DeSeversky or know of that have worked at DeSeversky that come highly recommended? I'm looking for someone classy, not a cheezy MC...no blow up toys or showy lights, no YMCA or chicken dance...and reasonably priced (whatever that means these days) - just not super expensive.

FM me if you're more comfortable giving out contact info that way. I really appreciate it ladies!!!

Laurie's awesome - so glad you're using her too!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Hey Pamela,

I asked mclane the same question about the DJ. She is using Vinny from High Voltage Sounds and it's really reasonable.
I am meeting with him on Sunday and I'll let you know how it goes.

I am with you, that I don't want anything flashy. Just a DJ to play the music we want to hear and to make a few announcements.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes with him.
