Hi Ladies,
I want to start this thread so we can talk about DeSeversky and share thoughts and ideas. I know there are 2 others getting married at DeSeversky so far.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Thanks: I am definitely looking forward to the dinner tomorrow. Will come back with a full report.
As far as news on the place: When my FH and I were there on Sat Debbie told me they finalized the date to get the new floors in the ballroom. It will be in mid-August. She aslo had stated that they were going to be just slightly darker then the current stain.

As far as the guest list goes-I know what you mean. I am trying to eliminate people to make my list smaller b/c everyone has me worrying about the amount of people.
Debbie did tell me though as well there are not enough rectangular tables and that they weren't nice either. The round ones are all able to fit 12 though. I like your idea of a runner though a lot. To be honest I had not even thought of that. I like the red as well.
I think I have decided on the color scheme for my wedding to be white and pink. What do you guys think?

Hey Prinses777

Were you and your FH touring the place on Sat? I think I saw you there. Me and my FH had a meeting to go over the contract with Debbie and got there early so we walked around for a bit. However, when I saw your pic I thought you looked familiar. I am glad you liked the place. Mike and I loved it from the start as well. I did the same thing as you. I went with him and then brought my mom to get her stamp of approval. However, I have been to it 3 times to look it over with bot of our parents and my MOH and each time I like it more and more. We will defiantly be going to the dinner tomorrow night. I hope to see you there and I hope your mom likes the place.

Is anyone doing a Mansion style wedding? I know I can always use that as an alternative plan but I really always wanted a sit down dinner.

I also booked my band this week and think that they are absolutely amazing. My brother had them at his wedding and so many of his friends loved them so much they had them at their weddings. So if anyone is looking for a band and wants some info let me know.

I'm using hot pink too and am also concerned. Does anyone know if the drapes can be drawn? Then there'd be a little less Red to clash with the pinks and other colors that may not go so well. Also, anyone know if we can open the doors & windows in the ballroom to make it a bit more airy?

Hi!

Dinner was yummmmmmmmmy!

First course was
sauteed sea scallops with tri colored mushroom raviloli... this was really good! I never had sea scallops before, and I am not a usually a fish eater, and I thought they were rather tasty!

Second course
lemon risotto with asparagus and herbs- this was good too!

Entree-
new York strip steak with gorgonzola and wild mushrooms- well... This was good but... it was very salty, I think it was just because of the gorgonzola cheese, and I usually don't eat salty foods... I think it would have been perfect w/o the gorgonzola cheese on top... but that is totally b/c I never eat salt, I don't think other people thought it was too salty... I think it was just me.

Oh!!! The bread was really good!!!

and the wine was good too!!!

I wasn't too keen on the dessert... but that's ok b/c we would have our wedding cake anyway...

so all and all... I thought it was really really good... I was pleased and so was my mother...

I am super excited, and we are going back to see the place and discuss the menu with Debbie soon...

Question--- I am a little worried that there set menu is not enough food... Is anyone else worried about this?? Or did anyone else add to food to the cocktail hour???

Ok.... I am bumping us!!! Where are all my Girls... (and mike!!!)

Did anyone order extra food at the cocktail hour??? I am nervous now that LaLa said there wasn't enough food...

Maybe the wedding she went to the gave the wrong head count???

Just wondering...

The amount of food...
I have thought about this as well. I think for LI the amount is smaller than most of the places I saw, however, all of my friends who have hosted weddings upstate, cape cod, NC, etc. the amount of food for cocktail hour at Deseversky will be more than I had there.

I struggle with balancing my views b/w LI expectations and other places. It is very common in other areas to serve only 4 passed horderves and have a cheese/cracker/fruit station. I think weddings around here are known for a glutonous amount of food - will Deseversky be that - no. But is it enough food - I think so.

However, your guests will come with certain expectations so if you don't feel like it is enough then add another station. As for us i am not sure what we will do as of now.

nybride - what do you think?

I have been thinking about that as well. I think I am going to add another station or two.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

So, I went to go see a Wedding 'set up' for around 100ppl, and I saw them setting up the antipasta table with some of the food... and it looked like a lot of food,

but... I did notice that they had more cocktail serving tables then what are included... I saw the carving table w/o food, the seafood bar w/o food, the pasta station w/o food... and then an additional huge table... which I couldn't figure out what it was... so I am assuming that the wedding also ordered an additional station...

Now... The antipasta table where I saw them setting up food looked like a lot, BUT... Does anyone know if they refill if something is running low??? Or does it just run out and the empty dish sit there??? I haven't asked Debbie yet, I didn't know if any of you asked her...

Also, the wedding set up... I noticed that there were no flowers or candles on the cocktail tables, after I noticed. Someone in the wedding party noticed that the wait staff did not set up the candles... But even with just the candles it did look a little bare, just something to think about.

One more thing, they didn't have any flowers on the Seating Card table, or on the Stair case banister as soon as you walk in, 2 places where I also thought that it could use something.

OH!!! And one more thing... Something that I kinda think is necessary also is a basket for the ladies in the bathroom, saw none of that...

Just some things to take into consideration...

I had my bridal shower at de serversky and the food was great! everyone loved it and the place has amazing phot ops..of course we were crazed and didnt take advantage of that. but..my mom said she really had to keep on top of the admin because they were very lax and not very helpful.
otherwise, great venue and you will all have amazing weddings!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Was a deseversky yesterday - which was exactly 1 year before we will get married!!!!!!! A few things.

1. I saw the ballroom set up for 130 people - if you do not have a band then there is more than enough room for everyone. With a band I am not sure - it is hard to conceptualize.

2. the new floor in the library looks great! It will be wonderful when they redo the floor in the ballroom.

3. I saw the shades in the atruim - they look nice - they have a bombay feel to them. All the old chamber light chandeliers will be replaced with fans so this room will feel even more like a british retreat in an exotic location - I like that. The only thing is that I liked the atrium without the shades because even if the weather was bad it would still feel like you are completely outside, but it looks good with the changes and in the summer it gets hot in there.

4. With the new flooring, the new curtains (which I have not seen) will really add to the ballroom. I never noticed the curtains before but they are plain.

5. They will be changing the wallpaper in the hallway (where the bathroom is) to gold toned - it will accentuate all the detailed painting on the doors.

6. They plan on putting a new chandelier in the huge oval ceiling above the marbel staircase. I guess there use to be one there. Don't know when this will happen but probably by next summer.

7. Lastly, they would like to change the chandeliers in the ballroom. When though they don't know - this project has not even begun.

Also, I noticed they had lots of colorful plants planted in the back - it looked great!!! I guess they try to do that every year.
