Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Original post by KimberlyBride

Hi Ladies,
I want to start this thread so we can talk about DeSeversky and share thoughts and ideas. I know there are 2 others getting married at DeSeversky so far.

Thanks for Debbie's email address, that should make getting in touch a bit easier.

I was wondering if anyone has inquired about liability insurance at the mansion? Every bridal planner has included this as an integral part of the contract, but the contract itself isn't too detailed about it.

I've also heard that the food is great, so that's one area we don't have to worry too much about. I'm happy to have seen the posts about D.O.C's - I'll be sure contact Rosalie. I don't want to be a nervous wreck the day of.

I'm hoping to do a sit-down dinner in the ballroom with approx. 140 guests. Might be a bit tight, but I really love the place.

Some FYI's: Debbie said the curtains in the ballroom are going to be updated in the next few months - pattern will be red damask floral with striped lining.

I was there yesterday and they were fixing the buckles in the floor of the ballroom. Debbie said the floor would probably be refurbished by next summer. Yesterday, the floor in the library was being cleaned up.

Is anybody having a band? I intend on having one, but was thinking 8 musicians might be too much for the ballroom.

ok, i just had a minor bridal freak out when you said they were changing the curtins. to go from beige to red flowers is a big change!! but i'll be ok...
we are having a 5 piece band, i was nervous about 8 also, but it guess it depends on what the 8 is. if that means two singers, and 6 musicians, i think it will be ok. you could ask them though if they have played there before.

and we are using Laura from LA Productions as our DOC. she is a sweetheart.

We had a 10 piece band & it was fine-they spread out in front of the fireplace---to the bride with 140 people-we had a 100 & it was very tight-having a smaller band will not matter--there just is not room for more tables-we did have a bar in the ballroom-so if you remove the bar-you would have space for 110--for each additl table you loose dance floor space.....I did not want to have the bar in a separate room-so we kept our guest list down

Yeah- I think I may have to cut some people from my list we currently were inviting 180 and expecting about 140-but I would like to keep the bar in the ballroom as well-plus I booked my band and it's a 9 piece band-Debbie said you could comfortably fit 140 at a sit down dinner w/ a bar but I am starting to seriuosly wonder
Laura: Thanks for the advise on Rosalie I am meeting w/ her on Mon night. I def think she is a good investment. I am already so uptight about everything being perfect that I think she will be a big help.

'Comfortably' is not what you will experience--cramped is more like it

I agree 140 is way too many people for the ballroom and will be uncomfortable.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I spoke to Debbie about it at length and tested out the setaing myself over the weekend and 140 will defiantly be fine as long as I don't have a bar in the ballroom. The tables are defiantly able to fit 12 people comfprtably. After everyones comments I was freaking out but I am rest assured it will not be an issue.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Congrats on booking!

Thanks fo much for the info that the website is updated. Robert told me they were working on it and I am so excited to see the finished product. It looks AWESOME!!! I am so excited.

Also you said the table will fit 12 comfortably. I though the tables were 60 inch round and could fit 8-10 per table. Then on the website I saw rectangular tables. I would rather have a rectangle so I can do a runner similar to this. I have emailed Debbie and will post what she says about the tables.

I love your table with the runner down the middle!

I had asked debbie about rectangular tables and she was not sure if she had enough that were all the same size there, but would be able to acquire the tables on campus - I think). The only thing about the rect tables is that they do not have the right size table cloths to cover the entire table properly and the tables are not a pretty construction underneath. Maybe table cloths could be rented? I really like this look as well. How would you set up the room, in a big u?

Keep us posted with what she says.

If I can tell you about an experience I had.

I recently went to a wedding at the DeSeversky and the room was TOO small for the amount of people there. There were 133 people and we were on top of each other. The bride and groom had a DJ to save space and still there wasn't enough room. The room was very hot and the bride and groom's table was on the dance floor. It was a rainy night and everyone has to stay indoors.

Also they used high centerpiece candle/flower holders and almost every centerpiece caught fire by the end of the night.

I took notice to a lot of things that were going on at the reception.

Otherwise it was a BEAUTIFUL reception!!!

Thanks for the information. I heard around 110-115 was really the max for sit downs (from other brides NOT Debbie), which is concerning for me because my guest list keeps growing. I am glad to hear everything went well besides the space. The centerpieces that caught on fire was posted here already - they are the rentals that you can get from Deseversky. Anything memorable that you would like to share?

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Debbie got back to me very quickly which is always a plus. She said the rectangular tables were not suitable for dining tables that they are used as buffet and station tables for wedding, conferences, etc. So out goes the rectangular idea which is fine. She said that they have 66' round and 72' round. So then I will move to plan B - criss-cross runners like the below pic. I am going to finishing touch in Hicksville tonight to check out their linens and see some table workups.
