OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi all,

I have had the opportunity to meet a handful of LIW South Asian (Indian) brides as well as non-Indians marrying Indians through LIW.

Everyone can participate in the thread but some of us felt it would be helpful to share information to fellow Indian (or Desi) brides out there.

If you all are for it, we can post info that will help each other on it. Like DJs, makeup artists, clothing resources, etc etc.

Take care!

Oops- the pictures came out so big. The 1st one is of a bridesmaid. For the reception, the bridal party changed into dresses and tuxes from their Indian attire.

I don't know why I'm attaching pictures. I'll stop.

When are you all getting married, if it hasn't happened already.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Has anyone used Sitar (Rajiv) to cater their event? If so, can you elaborate on your experience.

Thanks much. I am looking to have a July 16 wedding.

P.S. I love the Indian Ken/Barbie... how did you use it ... on your cake table?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I got the Indian bridal barbie from Ebay and the groom is actually a normal Ken doll - my mom's friend made the outfit. I had them on the cake table.

I've been to events at Sitar and the food was good. I can ask some friends - they may know of their catering better than I do.

I got the Indian food at my wedding catered from Diwan (Bobby) and it was good.

The pundit who married us was great- he explained everything in English also and wasn't scary as some of them can be
He's a professor somewhere- I think- so he's pretty articulate.

I am not using scrolls. But I am buying my invites most likely from an Indian website.
Indian Wedding Card
I ordered samples from them, and the cards are SO pretty plus it is way cheaper and their turnaround is much faster than printers in the US. The only thing is they only have one envelope. So if you are going to do Inside and outside envelopes, I do not suggest them.

The site above carries scrolls.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Unfortunately I do not have Bobby's contact info.

But perhaps you can try calling this restaurant - not positive that it's his. But try asking if this is Bobby's restaurant. If it is, then hopefully they can help you with your catering needs.

Diwan Restaurant
Address: 148 E 48th St, New York, NY 10017
Phone: (212) 593-5425

Good luck! Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey girls ... good to see this thread. Wish we had it when i got married =) Why don't we do introductions? I haven't been on LIW in a while so I don't know most of you.

I'll start..

My name is Sonia and i got married July 5, 2003. As you can see from the number of posts I have, i was on LIW a lot during wedding planning. I was born and raised in California and moved to the East coast after the wedding because my husband is from here. We went to Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora and Las Vegas for our honeymoon - AMAZING! Let me know if you have any questions, I spent a year and a half planning my California wedding and CA and NY receptions =)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Seek Sonia

She has GORGEOUS pictures from her Indian wedding.. I felt so ENVIOUS .. I wish our wedding had that much glamor.

Actually based on her pictures I felt more confident in my decision to use deep reds and golds in my own wedding. (Asian Inspired).

Search through this thread for a few of her pictures.. they are BREATHTAKING
