Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hi guys,My name is Amy and my wedding is on June 18, 2005. Both my fiance and live on LI and we're having Protestant Christian Ceremony.
Rinko - we are also considering ordering from indianweddingcard.com What do you mean theres only one envelope? Your getting RSVP cards with them also right that go in the bigger envelope?
Another invite site is 123weddingcards.com
scrolls are available on both sites.
Whiteaisle.com makes really nice scrolls but they are more expensive but at least the shipping cost isnt as bad!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I have a question for you guys - Im wearing a lengha for the wedding ceremony and want to find something to make the skirt look 'poofy' like an american wedding gown, the skirt is extremely heavy though so will the usual type of underskirt be ok-a lady who sells indian wedding outfits told me it probably wouldnt be! :(Any suggestions?
Also, for those that wore the lengha shawl on their head as a veil, did your hair sytlist do anything in particular to make it stay up..id like to wear it under my bun rather than on top of my head if possible.
TIA!

I wore mine on my head for the ceremony and it took LOTS of bobby pins. I wore lehngas at my receptions and didn't wear anything on my head because they were just too heavy.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Soon2BMrsA - about the crinoline (poufy underskirt) you were considering, you can perhaps take your lenga with you when you go to try on the crinoline so that you can tell whether it looks right. I am guessing that you would want one with minimal fullness. I was able to bring my wedding gown when I went to try on crinolines at the Bridal Building in Manhattan. You can call them to confirm. Most of the times, they will have the crinoline in stock and you can purchase it right away.I bought my crinoline from:
Tammy Fashions
1385 Broadway, Suite 1212 (12th Floor)
New York, NY 10018
212-827-0308
Hope this helps.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Thanks!!! Actually I want the lenga skirt to be as full as possible cuz my fiance really wanted me to wear the usual gown instead (he loves the princess bottoms) so I want this to look as much like a wedding gown as possible w/ ofcourse the whole indian affect...but thanks I will do what you said and take my skirt w/ me when I try on the crinoline-
no idea thats what the techincal name was :)

You will get the wedding invite, and one envelope. If you want an RSVP card, you will get an envelope with that. Usually there are 2 envelopes with the invite, an outside envelope and an inside.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Anyone know where to get the white flowers that Indian people put in their hair.Bleh I was trying to show a pic of it.. not working...
I think the flower is jasmine. But I know in India it is on a string....

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Are you putting the flowers on a string and then putting it in your hair?If not, I would recommend checking out orchids. They look beautiful. Here is a pic I saw on another board (sorry don't know whose it is to give credit).
I wore orchids and they lasted all day and night.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
i agree that orchids are a good choice if you can't find jasmine flowers. my florist messed up my order so i never got mine in time for the wedding.

There is a place called House of Deepali or something like that. You can get them there. I'll get the address and # later on.

The woman I go to is in Setauket. Are you in that area?If not, I think Hicksville has a couple of places that do threading.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
i actually dont live in NY. i just wanted to see if there were any really good threaders--not all threaders are created equal some of them do a better job than others.this lady in south jersey actually does my threading now and she's absolutely AWESOME.

I like the way mine turns out but that area gets so red after she does it. It doesn't go away for hours. Does this happen to you too?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
my eyebrows are red for a little bit, but then it goes away. im just really picky about my threaders because i cant tolerate too much pain, and some threaders are more painful than others. also some threaders have nicked my skin. i also noticed that if i dont get threaded for a while, i sometimes get a pimple or two over my eyebrows. lol.Welcome New Vendors
