Those are really cool cakes. Which site are you getting them from? I had not even thought of getting an Indian insprired cake. Wonder if my caterer will do it for me....

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I got those cake pics from collecting them from the WC threads. I added more to my previous post since you gals are interested. One cool idea I was just thinking of was to do a cake with the sari border around the base of each cake level.
So for example, in the pic below, instead of the pink ribbon, you could substitute with a sari pattern ribbon. You can also add the henna designs to the plain part (like in the 2nd pic).

Thanks! Too bad I didn't think of it before my wedding. Just kidding. Actually we loved our cake and wouldn't have changed anything about it.Hopefully the brides-to-be can use the idea.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hi, my wedding was in downtown Manhattan. My family lives in Long Island. I used a few Long Island vendors - limos, hair for BMs, e-party.I prefer not to post my pics on the forum in order to maintain the privacy of the people who are in the photos. Sorry.
I am more than glad to help in any other way possible though.

I was wondering if any of you Desi Brides have any recommendations for a rehersal dinner. Preferably, an Indian restaurant with a private room for around 40-50 thats reasonably priced in Hicksville/Betpage/Huntington area. Any suggestions?
My friend just told me she booked a restaurant for her parents anniversary party called Tandoor Grill in Rockville Centre..Im not sure if thats too far from where you were looking..but she said the guy gave her a really good deal..so it might be worth checking out!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Hi everyoneI'm not Indian but my FH is. I was wonering if anybody has any recommendations for a band/dj for the reception. Maybe a DJ that plays both american pop music and indian music (classical/bhangra/movie music, etc)?
Thanks for any help you can give!

yup she was there! I think the one a couple months ago was a screening at an asian film festival. This was the official premeire for the movie in America. Here's a link to some pictures - http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2005/feb/10sd1.htm

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Thanks for the link-shes so amazingly gorgeous!!! Yeah thats the one I went to, the film festival, but some promoters hyped it up as if she was going to be there too and when I saw the line outside I thought she was going to show up as well!! But only the producer was there. FH was sooooo disappointed, he thought he was going to see her up close finally!! lol

It was so funny .. there were so many guys there with their girls saying 'yea i'm here for him because he wants to marry aishwarya.' I was the only one with a DH who was there just because I'M obsessed with aishwarya He was a good sport though ... took a bunch of pics for me and i just found him on this picture .. haha he's on the far left in the back (the one with the turban)
