Thanks for the compliments ladies!!

MAY24BRIDE - I sent the lists.. Congrats on finding an apt!!!

Soni - We are going with Amrit from bollywood DJs.. Im not sure of the price cuz my FH is taking care of that bit.. but they are very nice and work very hard to meet your needs.

Deepa.. make sure it spells out Amrit.. he's great.. he wasn't available for my date.. his brother is ok and he was the one available for me.. Amrit did my parents wedding anniversary a few years back and everyone loved it!!

most of us are using Ginni..

you could look at Nina Doshi and I know a few girls here are using Kholouds (sp?)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

No - i haven't tried any other vendors yet for hair & makeup..

Ginni was nice, and at the trial i asked for natural makeup.. . but it was too heavy for my taste. I did learn some great tips from her though. For my makeup, i want to do something simple, and natural.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Deepa - thanks so much for the lists - really helpful. Also - your make up looked great.

I am taking FH's last name - I mentioned not or hyphenating and he flipped - it's just weird not having any trace of yourself before marriage

Also - we're having two honeymoons - b/c we're getting married in India in august and having our reception here in October - so in august we're planning to goto the Maldives
and October is still open - maybe fiji or bali or something.

I think I read one of you girls are looking for apartments in LIC - we were thinking of looking there but prices are so high - we looked at the new complex avalon riverview north and it's like $2700/month for a one bedroom - so we were thinking of looking in forest hills - basically we want to be close to the city close to either the E, F or 7 - any suggestions? where's everyone looking, any pointers?

Also - Dulhan - i had my engagement party at Sterling and it was a huge HIT! People were raving about the food and Mr. Raj tossed in a bunch of extras that we didn't pay for - a beautiful backdrop (probably over $2K), a whole dessert fireworks show and tea/coffee counter. Overall we were very pleased. So don't worry - they'll take care of you.

Took a while to get caught up with you girls - but hope all is well.

If you want to go with simple and natural, I think an american woman could do it really nice. Desi women I guess are used to how desi girls typically like their bridal makeup..did you try any of the vendors here??

I loved the way Ginni did my makeup, especially eyes. I want that traditional desi bride look, which is why she is perfect for that.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Yeah its really weird that once ur married and u take ur FH name, theres no trace of ur pre-marriage self! hahah
Im taking FH name..I feel its nice, and he was happy about that too, altho he left the decision totally up to me whether i wanted to keep it or not, and was fine with either or. Hyphenating tends to make it very long! lol
Plus future wise, now i mean wayy in the future..when we have kids, its better that way that both parents have the same last name lol my opinion
I actually realllyy LIKE fh last name, so i dont mind it :)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

thanks deepa!!

Dulhan.. I went to a wedding at the Sterling yesterday... the food was great, place looked really nice and everything was great.. i think they used Sterling's decor for the reception.. really awesome.. and the place outside was really well lit made for some beautiful pics.. for FH me and me as well.. so i could imagine w/ the professionals.. :)

just fyi.. we were w/ the groom, so when the barat arrvied, and they bride's side were welcoming him, i think another party had just ended and they kept walking out and hovering around there.. then finally some guy from sterling came and cleared up the area... and it was done in a really discreet manner.. i just happen to notice weird things lately..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

so my parents were calculating the responses they got back so far, and a lot of ppl seem to be saying they wont be able to make it. so now my dad is suggesting inviting other random ppl so that we have the minimum 200. this is annoying!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

how many people did you invite in total? And remember to count your FH's side too.

As the responses came in, i kept saying, ohmagosh, so many people are saying no. But when we totaled it all up....both our sides....we're well above our minimum.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i went for my first fitting yesterday...

last time i went to see my outfit, i disliked it.. there was nothing that would pop it out.,. and it seemed so dull.. but then the lady promised more work and change it a bit.. and holy crapola.. when i saw it.. it was sooooooo heavy, but it's gorgeous!!

and the best part.. i lost oodles of weight so now it looks better.. yay!!!
