Re: Oheka Castle

Here is the scoop:

For my Saturday night wedding in September, we are paying exactly $300pp for 200 people when you include the site fee, tax, and service charges.

For those of you who said that you 'don't believe in a site fee,' I can understand. No one wants to pay an extra charge. But the reality is that Oheka can charge it because it is so popular. I booked 1.5 years before my wedding date and I had VERY little choice in terms of dates that were available.

Re: Oheka Castle

WOW!!! I looked into Oheka when we first got engaged and the place is absolutely beautiful, though needless to say, a bit pricey. To all of you Oheka brides, congrats, have a great time and buy your parents a really nice gift!

no offense to anyone who paid a site fee -- IMO it is all bullsh-t. how DIFFERENT is the site from day to day that they have to increase it by that much? does the room shrink from monday to thursday? come on! gimme a friggin break. there are plenty of nice places out there with NO site fee (or more reasonable ones).

good luck!

Oheka has gone through many renovations since it has been reopened. I beleive the site fee pays for them and also the basic up keep of running the castle.

Re: Oheka Castle

Ok my mom and dad said I could have it there under either one of these 2 conditions:

1) we win the lotto

or 2) I invite 5 people

Good deal right?

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the 70K referenced would be towards a down payment only...

and agreed, given that $$ is an issue, i would rather invest that amount into something else.

Re: Oheka Castle

I still cant believe the price of this place... I told my FH and he couldn't believe it... I would much rather save the money towards a down payment, but I am assuming that if you are getting married there, you probably don't have to worry about a down payment on a house... but then again, its an assumption

Re: Oheka Castle

exactly a down payment for a wedding there. But not unusual for $60-70k for a wedding.....

it is not even enough for a down payment on Long island so i dont know what that is about... if you find a house anywhere on Long island for 70k let me know haha

That's OK Beth--I was talking about a down payment. If anyone finds a house for 70K on LI--or even 170K!!--pass it along this way!!!!!!

Re: Oheka Castle

OMG that site fee is out of control. I have never seen oheka nor have I even heard of it until this site. That is an insane price to pay for a 5 hour affair. What does it look like? For that price all my guests should have their own personal butler for that 5 hours. That is crazy.

Re: Oheka Castle

Funny thing, my dad actually said that as much as he loves Westbury Manor and all of its old world charm, he wishes he had the money for me to get married at Oheka. He was a club date musician for many years and played quite a few weddings all over Long Island and he said Oheka is just like a dream.

IMO you can not compare Oheka to a 5 hour catering reception, it is much more. You pay a site fee so that you have the castle for the entire day. You and you FI get to sleep over and your guests can too. Then the next morning you can have brunch with your whole family.

Yes, it is expensive there is not doubt about that. All I am saying is it is easy for people who can't afford it to say how CRAZY it is to get married there and how money can be well spent someplace else, etc etc.... If you can afford it then GO For IT, if not then I agree don't go into debt over it.
