Re: Oheka Castle
the place is GORGEOUS!!!! but if you plan on having more than 150 people, then plan to have your reception elsewhere.. also prepare to pay BIG bucks. this place is expensive..

Re: Oheka Castle
My cousin had her wedding there and there wasn't enough room for everyone to sit in the ballroom. Some people got mad and left because they had to roam about (she had a buffet set up with food in different rooms, which the older family members didn't like). However, it was gorgeous and the food was great.
Marcella is right about the size. If you have a small reception, it would work, but anything larger and people won't have a good time. My cousin had over 200 and most of us ended up sitting outside.

Re: Oheka Castle
I am getting married there in November. The ballroom is small, and I unfortunately had to invite about 190 people - hoping for about 150 which I think would be perfect.Let me know if you need info -

Re: Oheka Castle
do you know how flexible they are on the quoted prices...do they really stick to their prices on the per person and site fee?

Re: Oheka Castle
it depends on when you want to get married. Unfortunately it books REALLY fast. We booked right after the 11th last year, so we got a tiny bit of negotiating room on the cost. Plus - November is a little less desirable than like August. You cannot really take advantage of the grounds - even though you have to pay the full site fee! It is worth looking at if you have the budget - but keep in mind you are looking at a very expensive affair if you go with it. We were in a bit of a different financial position last year than we are now - and we are really feeling the stress of this now! (not that I would change it for the world!)

Re: Oheka Castle
Oheka was was second choice...Its beautiful in any weather...even if its raining...it gives a regal appearance...On negotiations: We were able to negotiate a good price for Mother's Day (negotiated 2001 for 2002)...I think they also have deals for father's day and 7/4...It was 1/2 the site fee and a reduced pp...which at that point would have been $180pp from $240 I think...(remember this was in 2001)
One of the reasons that I didn't choose it was that (and my mother was big on this)...because it is stone...you will need a TON of flowers...If you go to look...go on a weekend when they are setting up...the entrance needs a HUGE display...not to mention there are tons of rooms...That adds a lot into the price...and you can only use their florist (we have a friend of the family who is a great florist and there was no doubt that we wouldn't use him...)
another of course was the size of the ballroom...but if you have a dj instead of a band that could save a lot of space..
the best part is that you get the estate for the ENTIRE day...including a bridal suite for your wedding night...supposedly they are opening a spa there...I would love to spend a day there...
All in all it is spectacular...and if money is no object...and you have a small guest list...it would be a wonderful experience...
good luck deciding...

Re: Oheka Castle
You are totally right about it booking fast...we first looked at it about a month ago for next sept.--oct...and now almost every saturday and sunday is gone for 2003...it seems hard to tell which of these places are willing to come down a lot on price and which places you shouldn't even bother trying...i think it is going to be this or new york botanical gardens...both are pretty expensive ... the site fee at oheka is a killer...did they come down at all from that?

I got married at Land's End...I fell in love with the scenery...I wanted to get married in the summer...and it was perfect...but I suppose that if I got married in the winter...it would have been Oheka...

Re: Oheka Castle
Lands End is on the water in Sayville. I also got married there and everything was wonderful. Its a renovated Tudor mansion and has a lot of elegance and class. Not to mention amazing food. Same owners as Flowerfield.landsendweddings.com
