Oheka - just how expensive

Original post by Matt'sbride

I know Oheka seems to be one of the reception place of choice except for the cost - can anyone tell me just how expensive it is? Is it comparable to Carltun? I'm trying to get an idea compared to what we are paying for a Saturday night wedding at the Atlantica in June....Thanks!

As a mater of fact, I had a conversation with someone yesterday who recently went to a wedding at Oheka and they also said it was a beautiful place, but not worth the $$$...she said the food was not too good and the actual ballroom is not as nice as the rest of the place. Another friend priced it recently and said the site fee was 10K and starting price pp was $300 before tax and grat.

The carltun quoted me a price of $210 pp before tax & grat. for a Sat night in June.

I have heard nothing but amazing things about the Carltun, but the price was too much for us.

Having said all that...I think that all of these reception places are way overpriced!!!

just when i was getting happy

don't sweat it! why don't you listen to people who actually went to a wedding or event there... like ME! IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!! in every capacity!

I've heard that Oheka is beautiful but is over rated and is just too expensive. People have said that they have went to receptions there and its not worth all the money. HTH..this is just what i've heard

They probably said this b/c they cannot afford to have their wedding at Oheka! If I could afford it, I would most definately do it!

I went to a wedding there in April and it was beautiful! The food was delish and the service was outstanding!

Who I heard this from was the wife of the owner of Tri-County...(who is a millionaire..)..(My mom is good friends of theirs). So I'm sure that the money factor had NOTHING to do with her opinion. But who knows why. Maybe she just was used to others things. This obviously didnt impress her.

Some people are hard to please I guess!

DrBeLLaRose - You fell in love with the place, and that is all that counts. I did not want to offend you. I am sure it is wonderful. Everyone has different opinions...to each his own! I think some people will find things 'wrong' with everyplace just because of how expensive they are. I do agree that they are ALL overpriced for what each of them offers!

If it makes you feel any better, at least Oheka has walls. My ballroom is not even finished being built yet! (Temple under reconstruction)

here is my little vent for the day:

i swear sometimes i feel like i have had it up to here with oheka.... after that girl posted that she got oheka to offer her a reception at oheka in may/june for 225 per person and no 10,000 site fee... i am feeling maybe i made mistake :(

Catering halls charge everyone different prices, I know that for a fact, b/c I know what I'm paying and was quoted at different times/dates compared to what other brides have paid at the Carlyle, and it's different. The person whose site fee was waived my have an in at Oheka, you never know.

Don't feel like you made a mistake, Oheka looks breathtaking. From the pics I've seen, I can tell they put on gorgeous weddings. I've never been there, but I would LOVE to go to a wedding there. You made the right choice.

Really? No site fee? That's insane - but don't doubt yourself. I'm sure your day will be unforgettable and absolutely amazing.

She could have been lying or misunderstood the breakdown of costs. I don't think she'd outright lie, b/c I'm sure most Oheka brides paid that fee.....

Seriously, every place has positives and negatives. I have heard horror stories (and experienced first hand) concerning some of LI's most 'popular' catering halls. There was a recent May bride who was in tears due to issues with her catering hall...but people still get married there and have receptions there and knocking those people isn't fair. So posting something heard through a 3rd person when you don't really know the motivation behind that person's comments is unfair, especially when posting it in response to a bride getting married there...that really doesn't help. Who knows why the wife of a business owner said what they said to you - but it wasn't your experience...people's first hand comments are the ones that should matter - and still be taken with a grain of salt - to a bride to be.

Why did this post get bumped anyway, it's from 03 and the original posters are married now.

Seriously, don't panic! You made the right choice for you...besides, opinions are like a-holes...everyone's got one...you know the rest!

There's some Oheka hating going on, I see...

Rosemarie dont stress the place is beautiful! And maybe the LIB misunderstood I can't imagine them waving the site fee...that doesnt sound right

Oheka... Site fee is $9000 FRI & SUN,
10,000 SAT. It varies bet $250 & 300pp depending on what there prime is. I was looking for OCT. it was $300. If you consider a dec, jan or feb wedding it is $150pp. Guarentee on sat night is 200.

Also ask them their policy on outside vendors. I don't know if this is still the case but I recommended one of my vendors to a friend who got married there & they made him fill out a vendor applicationfee or something before he could work there. Not a big deal, but something else that requries a time line.

BTW, I loved her wedding and the service was impeccable. It was amazing.

Wow, once again, I should have read the whole thread.
