Oheka or NYC wedding?

Original post by LM Bride

Hello All! I am newly engaged - 12/25/07. I have only been to Oheka and love it - it's amazing!!!.. ALthough, I always pictured myself having an NYC wedding. I have an appointment with Rainbow Room Cipriani's and Capitale on Satuday. Any opinions/reviews on these places?...

Re: Oheka or NYC wedding?

i LIKE nyc wedding venues but depends on what youre looking for

try gotham hall-AMAZING and better location than capitale...capitale is beautiful too but some ppl i know complained about the area

cipriani's is real nice too

what about tribeca rooftop?

and believe it or some of the most amazing weddings are at the nyc library. Look at their site and see how its set up, youll be amazed

oheka is nice too but again depends what look and vibe you want. I personally wanted no princess associated things and a castle is one of them lol...but it is an amazing place. If you want more trendy unique type spaces then try NYC.

Either way it would be amazing so just go with what goes best with the look of your wedding

I think Oheka and NYC weddings are very very different -- do you want more trendy or more romantic? lots of beautiful grounds or a great city view?

You can't go wrong with either, especially if $$$ is no issue!

IMO...Meet with all the places you mentioned in NYC and with Oheka. Which ever establishment suits your and FH's requests for you wedding is the right place.

You can always do a search in Brides Reviews...

I agree! Def go check out all of them. And see who is giving you the most of what you want.

happy planning!

Capitale is amazing. I've been there twice for events.
Cipriani Wall Street is unbelievable and grand. The food was phenomenal.
You should also check out Gotham Hall which is incredible. I've been to two events there and they were awesome.
Also, Angel Oresanz is quite spectacular. Sarah jessica parker got married there.

Re: Oheka or NYC wedding?

ok honestly, if your budget allows you to pick any of the places you mentioned, then you should just go to each one w/ your FH and get a feel for it, decide for yourself if it would be the place you envisioned for your wedding. Me personally, I preferred a romantic location or something cozy with fireplaces. I didn't want it to be too modern......you shouldn't let anyone else make this decision for you, this will be YOUR wedding after all. Make a list of pro & con's of having your wedding in NYC versus LI if need be, NYC would never have worked for our families, no one lives there. Just remember, what you might find tacky others might love, and vice versa, so try not to let too many opinions sway you, since everyone has their own taste. No matter which place you choose, you are guaranteed an amazing reception location out of those you listed.

angel oresanz is amazing...They close early though thats the one thing. If you have an event music has to be off by 11pm. So if thats not a problem then it'd be great

Wow thanks so much girls! ... I love to get all these opinions! I know that Oheka and NYC (Cipriani & Capitale) have both TOTALLY different looks/themes and I think that's what I am not sure about. The only thing I do know is that I would def. do Oheka in October (will be 11 year anniversary with FH) and NYC for a winter wedding (Jan. ~ Rockefeller Center is where FH proposed).. I will let all ya girls know how it goes tomorrow... thanks!

It is your Day it is definitely up to you and what is most important. Go visit all places & price it out. My suggestion from my early post is based on what your getting for your money. If you don't care and it is that 'feel 'your going for than by all means choose the Castle. If You google it I believe it voted one of the leading Castles in the world.

I would chose a City wedding over LI but My DH did not want our Wedding so far as his friends and family live on the Island and he felt they would be unhappy. But then again I am more a NYC girl and him more a LI boy.

So my point being is it is all about preference. I am sure most Brides that had their wedding at the Castle will tell you it was great or why would they have had there wedding there ?!?
Half the time Brides don't even eat their food & the staff is kissing their butt! So as a guest and past Bride who checked out the Estate for our wedding , I found the food to be medicore and the service the same for the $$$.

Just my opinion - maybe others feel different and that is o.k too

*Great photo opps there I have to say!

Re: Oheka or NYC wedding?

As it has been said, it is totally a personal thing and depends on what you want in a hall. I loved the castle and would highly recommend it, but it is totally different from a NYC wedding. I think everyone has different experiences even at the same event - there are a lot of factors that go into whether or not your guests enjoy themselves. I know someone who went to an even at Cipriani and said that everything was horrible - especially the food, but then there are people who have been there and loved it. You really need to see them all and decide for yourself. People will always have opinions, but yours is the only one that matters in this situation.

And I ate the food at my wedding and it was very good. The bottom line is that no matter how much you pay per person, it is all mass produced food when you have a kitchen cooking for 200 people at once. How many weddings have you gone to that the food was worth the price per head? Do you know what kind of meal you can get for $100+ per person?!

Good luck!

What are you saying? That you can get good food? That $250 doesn't include open bar, cocktail hour or even a wedding cake!

Noooo I was responding to the comment that the food is rarely worth the per-head price. I listed that menu to agree -- that restaurant has great food but their catering menu is SO SO SO limited for $250 a person! It barely includes a thing! You're always going to end up paying more per person for a fancy event than you would for a regular dinner, even at an expensive restaurant (la grenouille's price fix menu is $95 for dinner and it's better than their catering menu IMO for less than 1/2 the price) 'that's nothing' referred to what you get, not what you pay -- sorry

Haha...ok...I really just didn't understand. Yeah, that seems crazy, but if you are a real foodie, you have a party there as opposed to a RH where the food is mass produced!

Oh I think this looks like a touchy subject since this was your venue of choice. Please NO offense to your choice. I happen to think it is quite lovely - I am just a fanatic about getting your money's worth for the price. I also happen to agree w/the mass produced situation w/the kitchen when you have to feed 200p. Very difficult and everyone can have a different experience w/the food or service.

Because this was such an issue for myself and my DH we decided to do things a bit different and have our Event done by a private estate with the restaurant on premises. This is where my standpoint came from , this is what was one of the leading factors to have our wedding where we did. Guess what there still was NO guarantee but we felt we might have more of chance with a reputable Chef who owns many establishments than a catering company that mass produces.

Just all preference and since she asked I gave my opionion. Sorry Oheka Brides

Ok.. I saw Capitale and Rainbow Room. I;m in love with Capitale!... MY expectations of the Rainbow Room were NOT met; yes, the view is spectacular but the place is not me. I also expected more of a 'WOW' from the actual Rainbow Room were the reception would take place. Capitale is amazinggggg and grand! I love the history and 65 foot ceilings... I could def. picture myself dancing with FH for the first dance! I have heard great things about the food at Capitale - it's very important due to the fact that both FH & I come from Italian backgrounds... (I don't really like the area, but as soon as I saw the Ballroom I was 'WOWED'!!)

Congratulations. I've been to two events at Capitale and it's amazing. Yes, the area is very downtown however, it's still very cool. You should also check out the following which has amazing 'wow' factor:
Gotham Hall (used to be an old bank. I went to a Grammy event there and the acoustics are amazing)
Angel Oresanz
Cipriani Wall Street (amazing and some of the best food I've had)
Mandarin Oriental (amazing views and the food was sooo tasty)
