Hello All! I am newly engaged - 12/25/07. I have only been to Oheka and love it - it's amazing!!!.. ALthough, I always pictured myself having an NYC wedding. I have an appointment with Rainbow Room Cipriani's and Capitale on Satuday. Any opinions/reviews on these places?...

I personally think the the Oheka is overrated. The property is pretty but the price is outrageous for what your getting!
I say go for the CIty if your FH is kewl with it. I have not herd anything about the rainbow room as of late but another place to consider is terrace on the park. Not the city but very nice.

IMO...Meet with all the places you mentioned in NYC and with Oheka. Which ever establishment suits your and FH's requests for you wedding is the right place.
You can always do a search in Brides Reviews...

If budget isn't a factor - Cipriani is gorgeous from what I hear - FH has his Christmas parties there - I've been to Capitale for a wedding - it was GORGEOUS - stunning from the second you walk in - definitely recommend it!

This is one of those things that only you and your FH can decide. You have to visit the places themselves and see how YOU feel. Good Luck!

I went to a wedding at the Rainbow Room...absolutely AMAZINGGGG..Not sure what your budget is but if money isnt much of a problem you should look into Gotham Hall Gorgeous

I think both are awesome...based on the fact that it seems like you have a pretty open budget.
Have you looked at the Tribecca Rooftop or the Lighhouse at Chealsa Peirs? These are both known to be A+ in the city.
One thing you have to keep in mind about the city is that hotels for your guests will be more expensive. You just have to decide if your party is comfortable with that!

For the price that you are paying at Oheka, you can have a wedding in Manhattan.
I guess it all depends on when and what you like. If you're having a spring, summer, early fall wedding, Oheka would be really pretty. but then again NYC will have amazing views of the skyline. If you are opting for the winter season, definitely stick with Manhattan cuz it'll all be indoors and there are less problems with snow once you are in the city.

I too agree that Oheka is over rated-- I in the beginning wanted to have my wedding there-- but there really arent many good things said about it-- the food & service is mediocre-- the only thing that there arent complaints about is the premises-- in that case you can always go there and take pictures I never considered a city wedding-- how bad is a price tag on one of those babies lol

Oheka is a beautiful place but the price is too high. I would try the city. There are a lot of beautiful places in the city. I would google New York Sites and Services, it is a mag that has alot of reception halls listed that are in the city.

I think if you asked all the Oheka girls on this site they will tell you that Oheka is NOT overratted. The food is Fantastic, the service is fantastic. The castle itself is beautiful and intimate at the same time. Thats why I liked it. Its Huge and Gorgous but it also seems so comfortable and warm. I can assure you that you will not be upset if you go with Oheka. All the Halls in NYC have a different vibe. I am from NYC so I have been to many. They are more Glamorous then romantic. They are also beautiful! It depends on what you are looking for. Also think about your guests and the ease of getting around. Thats also why I went with Long Island. if money were no object, i would choose manhattan over oheka any day. the only problem may be the parking/traffic issue, but other than that, i vote for NYC.

I didn't look at halls in Manhattan because I don't live in the city, neither do the majority of my friends/family and it would be way expensive for our many OOT guests. I've also never been to a city wedding but my parents have been to Gotham Hall and said it was really nice.
Oheka seems beautiful from the pictures but for me it's not worth the price. I'd rather get married elsewhere, maybe take pictures at Oheka and then put the $$ elsewhere. However, I'd love to go to someone else's Oheka wedding
How does the price of Oheka compare to the city weddings? Do you have to find an outside caterer? It seems like it might be 'easier' to plan a wedding at a place like Oheka where you dont have to rent chairs/linens/get an outside caterer but then again I'm making assumptions about the city places.
What look are you going for?
I agree that Oheka is more worth it in the summer when you'd be taking advantage of the grounds, and NYC might be better in the winter

i would pick an NYC wedding over an LI wedding for sure, i have alot of family in westchester county (mostly), but i live in Manhattan and so does almost all of FHs family....i love NYC wedding spots a lot more then LIs
