Oheka or NYC wedding?

Original post by LM Bride

Hello All! I am newly engaged - 12/25/07. I have only been to Oheka and love it - it's amazing!!!.. ALthough, I always pictured myself having an NYC wedding. I have an appointment with Rainbow Room Cipriani's and Capitale on Satuday. Any opinions/reviews on these places?...

We looked at a lot of the halls mentioned in this post and in the end decided to go with a NYC venue. My fiance and I live in the city, although we each have a lot of family on the island.

Oheka Castle is very nice but ultimately was not the look we were going for, although the grounds are spectacular. We wanted a bit more trendy and glam than traditional.

They are very very different but you can't go wrong with any of them. It just depends on what look and atmosphere you want.

I had my wedding at the St. Regis Hotel in NYC and loved it. They literally take care of everything for you! The service is impeccible and the food is absolutely delicious.

Someone i know got married at Oheka and you can not really go wrong there, it was so gorgeous and the food was great.

I think if you asked all the Oheka girls on this site they will tell you that Oheka is NOT overratted. The food is Fantastic, the service is fantastic. The castle itself is beautiful and intimate at the same time. Thats why I liked it. Its Huge and Gorgous but it also seems so comfortable and warm. I can assure you that you will not be upset if you go with Oheka.
All the Halls in NYC have a different vibe. I am from NYC so I have been to many. They are more Glamorous then romantic. They are also beautiful! It depends on what you are looking for. Also think about your guests and the ease of getting around. Thats also why I went with Long Island.
Please feel free to FM me if you have any questions at all.

AGREED!!!!! We are having our wedding at Oheka as well. I was also interested in the Tribecca Rooftop but when we thought about it, we are having 350 guests and that's a lot of people to ask to trek into the city. We fell in LOVE with Oheka. The staff is wonderful to work with, I have on the contrarty heard RAVE reviews about the food from people who have been to weddings and other events there. It is more pricey than other LI places but if you can afford it then it is well worth it.

Ok.. I saw Capitale and Rainbow Room. I;m in love with Capitale!... MY expectations of the Rainbow Room were NOT met; yes, the view is spectacular but the place is not me. I also expected more of a 'WOW' from the actual Rainbow Room were the reception would take place. Capitale is amazinggggg and grand! I love the history and 65 foot ceilings... I could def. picture myself dancing with FH for the first dance! I have heard great things about the food at Capitale - it's very important due to the fact that both FH & I come from Italian backgrounds... (I don't really like the area, but as soon as I saw the Ballroom I was 'WOWED'!!)

I totally agree with you on the Rainbow Room. The rooms are NOTHING to write home about (aside from the view, of course). Plus, I feel like things could get really crammed, with the coctail hour in the same room and stuff. I don't know what I expected, but I was quite disappointed when I saw it.

I felt like a huge brat for not liking the RR so I'm glad I'm not the only one with those thoughs. Good luck making your final decision!

(Hope this doesn't offend anyone - it's just my silly little opinion! )

Hi. Congratulations on your wedding. I am getting married at Oheka but also looked at all the NYC places you mentioned. All are great choices. I think it really depends on what you want and your family/guest. Some things I didn't realize when looking into NYC locations that might be helpful to ask: 1. parking, your guest will have to park at a local lot which they can pay or you can hire a valet thorugh the hall or an independent contractor but its a considerable cost and can be a little inconvenient for guest 2. lightening/audio - Ciprani and Capitale you have to contract with their lightening and sound even if you don't want anything special just to have your band hook into their audio system. I'm not sure on your budget, but that is something to cosider as it adds a lot to the already high per plate charges.

That said Ciprani on 23rd Street was awesome...

Good Luck!
