Ok flipping out! I need your HELP! ASAP! UPDATE

Ok so I guess I should have known that at some point during out planning we were going to hit a bump in the road....everything had been going so very smoothly until this morning when I got an email from our photographer.

His wife surprised him with a cruise with two other couples and he will be gone for our wedding date. He says he can have his #1 photographer sub in for us for our wedding day and he also said if we feel at all uncomfortable with this he can see if his wife can change the cruise dates

For now I just responded saying I would have to discuss this with my FH. I have never met this other photographer he is talking about and I have never seen her work. I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS. We are paying a lot of money because we wanted him. We loved his personality and his work and he really set us both at ease. I am so upset right now. I know FH will be also. So what do I do?? What do I say to him? Please help me! I am so bummed right now!

UPDATE: So he emailed me back and said he completely understands and that he will have his wife change the dates of the cruise since the final payment has not yet been made. So hopefully this all works out!! Thanks for all your help!

I totally agree that this is VERY unprofessional. His wife should know that he might have had things scheduled before she booked the cruise.
I agree with asking to see the other photogs work. If the original guy can't change the dates of his vacation I would also start throwing around the idea that you might want to be let out of your contract, so that he actually tries REALLY hard to change his vacation dates.

Before you go to plan B and look for another photog, which I think could still be done at this point, maybe you can meet with the other photog that he is offering to you and see if you get along and like her and her work.

Maybe you can even do another e-shoot with her to see how you all work together and if your personalities match and if you like hwe work. I think that this e-shoot should be free since it is your photog's fault and after doing the e-shoot, a lot of your questions will be answered.

At the same time, while you are working with your current photog to fix this situation, you can slowly look to see if there is any other photog out there that you like and can work with. You might never need a new photog at all but doing some light searching while also working with your current photog to resolve this situtation might put you in ease.

I agree with asking to see the other photogs work. If the original guy can't change the dates of his vacation I would also start throwing around the idea that you might want to be let out of your contract, so that he actually tries REALLY hard to change his vacation dates.

But I wonder how true this is though ... I mean I cant imagine she didnt know about this ... hes a wedding photog!!! Maybe he wanted to take the vacay .. I wouldnt be surprised if he comes back and tells you he cant change it, he just sounds unprofessional ... maybe its for the best, you know things happen for a reason, Maybe this other photog will do a better job in the end!

I agree was he just throwing the idea out to you to see what your response will be. I hope everything works out

That's great Jessica. I really feel like he knew what was right and wrong in this situation, and he was just hoping for the vacay. Truth is, his wife should know better than to surprise someone in his line of work like that, without looking at his calendar. I'm glad this worked out for you!!!!

Thanks! I hope so! I hope this isn't a sign of further things to come. But I really don't think it is. FH and I really trust him. Hopefully we are right....
