Ok...so we were going to do Las Vegas for our honeymoon, but FH suddenly dropped the bomb that he would rather go elsewhere because he went to Vegas twice already; once with an ex g/f and once with his ex-roomate. Now i knew about these vacations but he seemed to be on board with going. But now he is saying it seems expensive and stalling. When we talked a bit more (last 2 frickin hours!) on the phone, he admitted in that boy way men have, that he was worried about being reminded of 'the Devil' as he refers to his ex. So, our LV vacation is nixed.
-sighs- He says he would rather go to Florida-Disney, etc, We cant afford Caribbean or Mexico and time constraints work against us because we have a wedding to go to 3 weeks after ours that is in new Hampshire of all places.
So new thread here...So SOOOO sorry to all those who were helpful with the Las Vegas questions w had! You're all wonderful and we appreciate it! Need your advice again...
We'd like to stay REALLY close to Disney World, or inside of it. We do not want to have to travel like crazy to get around. I tried looking for disney packages and deals online but it is sooo confusing. Very commercialized and gave me a headache. We may talk to a travel agent this weekend, but I thought I'd ask here first since you guys seem to have great ideas.
We can't do super expensive like THE GRAND FLORIDIAN but we don't want to stay at a super crappy plac either. We will probably spend most of the time in the parks but we;d like to have a nice relaxing hotel with a good pool to come back to if we decide to lounge around.
About 10 years ago, my family stayed at the Disney Carribean Resort and we loved it, but reviews I read recently read say its crap now so I am worried. I know NOTHING about Fl now so I could really use the help. Suggestions on hotels, ways to get better deals, etc.
THANKS!!!!!

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
I would suggest the Wilderness Lodge. We go to disney every year. We love to stay there. Its a Deluxe resort but the prices are decent for it. It has a boat you can take over to magic kingdom. Its a beautiful hotel.

Someone mentioned that one to me. Do you mind giving a brief description of it? When did you go? We are planning for early August so i know the prices are higher then. Was it 'rustic?' We really don't want the twin bed thing-want one bed which seems IMPOSSIBLE in a lot of these hotels! LOL ALL over. Its like at all-inclusive mexico places we looked at last year, a lot of them that were for adults ahd twin beds yet they claimed to be 'honneymooner's paradise.' WTH?! I'd hope most happy honemooners want to share a bed!

Oh my god Disney is the best actually my family owns Disney timeshare and we go down at least once a year. So I am a self proclaimed Disney Guru!!!! There are such awesome places to stay there. A lot are expensive but they do have deals and NONE of the actual Disney hotels are crappy. SO here are some we absoulutly LOVE. Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Club, Animal Kingdom Lodge, We have even stayed at Coronado Springs and that was nice ( a lil cheaper ).....IF you have ANY Disney questions FM me I would be happy to answer them!!!!!! Congrats!!! A lil more wholesome then Vegas heeeeee

I think disney is over all pretty $$$
If you're really looking forward to disney and have your heart set on it, go for it. I'm sure you can stay at kissimeee or something and rent a car without much trouble...
But, if you're choosing disney to save $$$, I think you could do better elsewhere. I saw a recent thread where disney honeymooners were spending $4k-$9k for 10 days!!!!
Our greek island honeymoon costs 4k for 10 days... (we booked it online ourselves with traveladvisor.com)... and frankly, I'm shocked that disney costs more than a honeymoon 7k miles away in the mediteranean during peak season.
non disney options that could be affordable that I can think of off the top of my head include all inclusive cruises to bermuda or jamaica.... especially if you chose a lower deck room, which I always did.... good luck!

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
check this out. You might have already seen it though.
The rooms were just renovated. I stayed there in 2005. We go every year but I missed last year because of the wedding. We just got back in Feb. We stayed at the Boardwalk this time because the pool at the Wilderness was under construction. I love it there. They have a great snack bar too. We are probably going next August and staying there.

Hmm so Disney seems really overpirced. Anyone else? Anywhere else? We thought about jamaica but have friends who go there every year, including one couple who are from jamaica and just moved here liek 5 years ago. They all said its beautiful but some of the residents are more aggressive towards tourists than on some other islands-some going as far (baggage gandlers at airports and hotels) as to refuse to load bags onto or off of busses unless they were given 'incentive.'
We dont know from personal experience so i'll try and refrain from judgement, but hearing this from people who used to live there, does make us leery. It was the same way in Mexico if you left the resort. We were outright told by conierge and staff to stay onsite unless we were travelling in a taxi they called for us, or went with a reputable tourism group. Kind of scary, but the hotels were fabulous, so I am willling to get feedback on jamaica vacations and hotels if anyone has them. Thanks again!

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
try bermuda..... I've cruised there (directly out of NYC) numerous times, and had a blast (not to mention it's very romantic and pretty!). July is the ideal time to go.... With cruises, there are almost no additional expenses (just drinks, and stuff you do on the island), and everything is already done for you... Smaller ships are the most convenient becuase they can pull directly up to the docks. Larger ships require ferrying back and forth.
you can save TONS of $$$ by chosing an inside cabin (no window). Frankly, when you're cruising, there's no need for a huge room, becuase you're either in bed, or changing to run to the upper decks anyway...
My mom went to Jamaica when I was just born, and honestly said the same thing you mentioned... she was a bit harassed by beggars
BUT, she also said the food was the best she's ever eaten

Disney is really expensive!! An all inclusive or cruise might be a cheaper- yetjust as fun way to do it!!
As far as FH being reminded of El Diablo - C'MON!!! Like he would ever be able to focus on anyone but you on HM!! He's nervous for no good reason!!

Nah, I have to agree with the FH on this. I want our honeymoon to be a place NEITHER of us have ever been.... it's symbolic that we're celebrating a new adventure in our life with a new adventure that we're sharing together.
Originally I wanted to go to istanbul for the honeymoon... and like you, I thought he was on board with the idea. FH was nervous about political tensions, so he wanted to go to somewhere in western europe. I've 'done' western europe to death..... many times with one ex or another.... I don't want to re-live something on my honeymoon... I want it to be a new adventure!
We compromised... instead we're heading a tad south of turkey and going to greece (both for the first time)!

-grins- Portjeff, you are the voice of reason...I tend to think he is being silly because neither of us ever went to Grand Canyon but he's usually a reasonable human being so i relented. Gives me everythign so i can give him this.
Ok so Disney looks like its out because sooo crazy expensive! Ironically, just as you guys posted, he suggested a cruise. Now for cruises....Better to go carribean bound or north like alaska in August? Im afraid of hurricaines! They start late July through like October.
Did you girls who have gone on cruises, book through an agent or do it yourselves? If you DIY, could you gie the sites or places you looked?
And cruise to where? where have you guys gone? which places would you suggest, etc.
Any cruise lines better than others? Don't want to end up overboard like that couple on their honeymoon -grins- Ok that was bad, mean jenn.
Thanks! Y'all are the best!

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
Considering for expensive Disney is, I would consider an all inclusive. try travelby jenn.com I have used her and the trips have been great and very relaxing. All inclusive so when FH let wallet home by accident, it didn't even matter.
I'm not a big Disney fan, I think it is expensive and over rated

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
how about a disney cruise? we have one booked for this october (we may cancel it due to our being extremely broke...). we booked it through all seas travel . we called them and they gave us a good price and made the arrangements. the 7 day cruise is costing us less than $2000. we've cruised twice before (NCL, Royal Caribean), but we heard Disney cruises are really good. my brother had his honeymoon on one last year and is going back again with us in october they loved it so much. i hope you find the perfect honeymoon!
