Ok...so we were going to do Las Vegas for our honeymoon, but FH suddenly dropped the bomb that he would rather go elsewhere because he went to Vegas twice already; once with an ex g/f and once with his ex-roomate. Now i knew about these vacations but he seemed to be on board with going. But now he is saying it seems expensive and stalling. When we talked a bit more (last 2 frickin hours!) on the phone, he admitted in that boy way men have, that he was worried about being reminded of 'the Devil' as he refers to his ex. So, our LV vacation is nixed.
-sighs- He says he would rather go to Florida-Disney, etc, We cant afford Caribbean or Mexico and time constraints work against us because we have a wedding to go to 3 weeks after ours that is in new Hampshire of all places.
So new thread here...So SOOOO sorry to all those who were helpful with the Las Vegas questions w had! You're all wonderful and we appreciate it! Need your advice again...
We'd like to stay REALLY close to Disney World, or inside of it. We do not want to have to travel like crazy to get around. I tried looking for disney packages and deals online but it is sooo confusing. Very commercialized and gave me a headache. We may talk to a travel agent this weekend, but I thought I'd ask here first since you guys seem to have great ideas.
We can't do super expensive like THE GRAND FLORIDIAN but we don't want to stay at a super crappy plac either. We will probably spend most of the time in the parks but we;d like to have a nice relaxing hotel with a good pool to come back to if we decide to lounge around.
About 10 years ago, my family stayed at the Disney Carribean Resort and we loved it, but reviews I read recently read say its crap now so I am worried. I know NOTHING about Fl now so I could really use the help. Suggestions on hotels, ways to get better deals, etc.
THANKS!!!!!

-grins- Portjeff, you are the voice of reason...I tend to think he is being silly because neither of us ever went to Grand Canyon but he's usually a reasonable human being so i relented. Gives me everythign so i can give him this.
Ok so Disney looks like its out because sooo crazy expensive! Ironically, just as you guys posted, he suggested a cruise. Now for cruises....Better to go carribean bound or north like alaska in August? Im afraid of hurricaines! They start late July through like October.
Did you girls who have gone on cruises, book through an agent or do it yourselves? If you DIY, could you gie the sites or places you looked?
And cruise to where? where have you guys gone? which places would you suggest, etc.
Any cruise lines better than others? Don't want to end up overboard like that couple on their honeymoon -grins- Ok that was bad, mean jenn.
Thanks! Y'all are the best!
caribbean cruises you can probably find a cheaper on. I loved the crown princess cruise we went on, it went to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Turks & caicos and bermuda...The ship was brand new this past summer and is one of the biggest ships, freedom of the seas is the biggest one though...but the crown princess is gorgeous.
BUT honestly you can probably find better deals on other cruise lines

Hmm those are helpful. Not niagra-went there with the ex I considered marrying soooo not a great spot for me! But punta cana is an idea.
our biggets issue is we want to stay at about 2,500 max for our honeymoon and everything for august seems well overpriced-probably due to summer and people being off, as well as weddign season.

What about a cruise? At least that would be mostly all-inclusive and you'd only have to pay for excursions (if you want to do them) and alcohol.

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
Should I try a travel agent or website? Id prefer all inclusive so we dont have to leave the resort much. I speak spanish but FH doesn't so its easier for us if we stay somewhere where the staff is guranteed to speak english.
Anyone know of nice places in Punta Cana or La Romana?
I am looking into crusies but will have to speak to a travel agent because it seems there arent many cheap crusies in August to caribbean. We have to be back by no later than the 15 because my best friends weding is the 18th and we have to drive up there.
So far, only ones are in Miami or leaving from san Juan and those airfares arent cheap. Its a pain in the behind. Crusies still look lik it might cost us close to 3,000 and we wnat to stay well under that. Parents are paying for it.

I am not sure what your budget is but going to Disney may be more expensive than going to St. Thomas and relaxing on the beach? have you checked out www.cheapcarribean.com Good Luck with your decision.

Re: Ok guys...SO SORRY ABOUT THIS!
I am partial.. fh and I LOVE DISNEY...we go every year.. we didn't go this year b/c we are saving for the wedding...
I happen to like all of the disney hotels.. you can do a value resort which isn't bad at all for a reasonable price..
It really deponds on you and your fh.. fh and i love disney b/c there is always something to do whether it go to the parks, jetski.. shop etc.. but i wanted to go on a realxing vaca so we went to st. thomas and the plan was to sleep late.. lounge at the pool and relax... fh and i didn't have the 'fun' we expected... we are more of gotta be doing something.. there is only so much of lounging doing nothing you can do.. if you nad fh can just stay by the pool and chill out than i wouldn't suggest Disney but if you like rides and things like that then i would go with disney. You can get Disney for a good price.. call the disney people and they will be able to help you

i think its easiest to go to a TA and get info and prices. then when you come up with your best options you can look online to make sure you are getting the best price. i like booking through a TA because i can go to them with all my q's and get fast answers. i think the cheapest all inclusive you will find are cruises, especially if you book one from NY and save on airfare.

the one from brooklyn NY is the crown princess and it starts at $1600 each and thats for the standard room, otherwise its $2100 each and then more for the other rooms

If you want to stay inexpensive, how about doing a smaller HM now, and then in a few months do a big trip? It is cheaper to travel at other times of the year...

$2100 each person or for one room??? i've cruised out of NY twice (NCL Dawn to FL and Bahams, and Royal Carribean Nordic Empress to Bermuda) and both cost lest than $2000 for DH and I for an inside cabin. the only things not included in the price are drinks, excursions, certain restaurants, souveniours, stuff on the islands.

1. I must concur with an earlier opinion: PortJeff Rules. She is ALWAYS the voice of reason and sanity.
2. FH and I are going to Boston and Maine for our HM. I know a lot of brides would turn their noses up at such a thing, but we wereplanning for a European HM and then realized that it would cost crazy $$. I was perusing a Lucky Magazine one afternnon and came across an article on the best 'unknown' spas. It was there that I found my HM. We are leaving the day after our wedding, driving up to Boston and staying in a super fancy hotel for one night. The next morning, we are completeing our journey to Ogunquit Maine and spending 4 nights at the most gorgeous spa and resort. It's called The Cliff House. It is overlooking a cliff and is magnificent. Even better, it was totally in our price range. We are spending a total of about 1400 for Boston and Maine combined (not including meals, gas etc.). We've been to Maine before and both love it. I'm really excited about the HM. FM me if you have any other questions.

thanks guys....
BOSTON! GENIUS! One of my collaborators is in boston, and FH and I decided to make a mini-vacation out of a business trip last sept. We had the best time!!!!! it's a great city. This is a bit risky, but I'll give you a travel tip a cheap (I mean thrifty ) co-worker gave me.... wait until 4 days before your trip and then go onto priceline.com. He paid under $100 / night for a hotel in PRIME tourist real estate in boston last summer. It was about 70% off!!!
I was also going to suggest montreal..... you could also shop for good airfare deals to europe on travelzoo and other discount sites. Many countries can be pricey to get to, but once there, are cheap.... hungary, albania.... and the main cities are GORGEOUS.
