ok here is my problem and i need some help! sorry might be a little long

My mother and I have been at each other over almost every thing. From my invites to what my hubby to be is going to wear, and that's what this is about!

We are getting married on Feb.29, 2004( which bythe way that was onther problem for my mom) but anyway.

The time is 6:00pm
ok not bad right wrong!
she is fighting with me telling me if i want a trashie wedding then fine!

ok by now I am sure your wondering what the problem is, well he it goes:

not only me and him but his mom too says he will look real good in a white tux!

my mom say it's a night wedding and no way is he wearing a white tux.
she is worried about what others might say i think she really feels someone is going to wisper behind our backs and say omg he's wearing white in feb. and at night wedding!
also it's not 'proper'
this is were you guys come in and tell me what you feel on it!

My take on it is you where also never to wear black at a wedding and now look at that I have had to wear a black bridesmaid dress
before.

so please if you can help in this it would be great! and please be honest!!!

Well, first of all, there's nothing wrong with a 6pm wedding...in Feb it'll probably just be getting dark -- anyway why does that make your wedding trashy?? I don't see anything wrong with FH wearing a white tux in Feb or for a nighttime wedding. I just went to a wedding in August where the groom wore white and everything looked lovely (except for the fact that the bride's dress was ivory so make sure that if he is wearing white-white so are you!!!!).

I know it's your mom, but you have to realize that you can't please everyone. My mom doesn't care for my choice of reception site but what can I do?? It was what FH and I wanted and it's our wedding not hers so too bad. Tell her that you don't the stress of her criticizing all your decisions but that you appreciate her input and advice (in a nice way). Good luck!!

My Uncle got married in the evening wearing a white dinner jacket.

My Grandfather also wore white.

My Grandmother was a Major NYC Party Planner in the 60s. Her clientele included Barbara Walters. If it were trashy, TRUST me, she wouldn't have gone for it. She was VERY into ettiquette, high society, etc.

Maybe you and your mom should sit down and have a heart to heart - see if you can't get to the REAL root of the problem.

We just went to a bridal show and there was a tux with a white jacket and black pants. I thought it looked very classy, sort of Cary Grant looking. I would ask the tuxedo place if an all white tux is okay for the winter. I would go with what they say. They should know.

It's your decision, your mom will get over it.

It is your wedding do what you want. I am sure non of your guests will be questioning your color scheme?

this is your day and as long as you are happy who cares what people think. if you live your life according to what people you will be miserable. Enjoy your day and you and your FH do you!

I have to be honest and say I have never seen a white tux at a wedding - a white dinner jacket is NOT the same thing - that is a more formal approach.

My opinion is it shouldn't matter if you want him to wear black, white or poka dots...This is your wedding and so what if guests think that - it is your choice and that should be all that is important - you are not hurting anyone by wearing it so if it makes him feel special let him wear it.

And some people made a good point make sure the white matches your dress though or it will look bad in photos.

I was at a'trashy' wedding once and it had NOTHING to do with what time it started.....all th BM's were walking around barefoot, with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths and bottles of beer in hand.....anyway.....bottom line, it's YOUR wedding!! I know that our moms have certain visions of what our wedding day will be like, they've probably been dreaming of this day as long as we have but from what I see on here is whenever a B2B strays from that vision, all hell breaks loose! Mom had her chance to plan HER wedding the way SHE wanted and now it's your turn. Calmly speak to your mom and let her know how important this day is to you and you realize that it's also an important day to her but this is your day and you want things this way because that's what YOU want.

Good Luck!

i agree with everything i have heard - i am getting alot of gruff about having a themed wedding - but i finally had enough and a few days ago told everyone to back off - they had their weddings the way the wanted to and this is my wedding if they didnt like what i was doing they didnt need to come - well that shut everyone up really fast now they are all helping instead of bickering about everything -
i didnt think i could stand up for myself but i did cause i was about to loose my mind -
i think you need to tell your mom to back off - she is suppose to be supporting you not making your life a living hell
just my opinion - oh and by the way my groom is wearing bright blue and cream it is what he picked out all by himself and is really proud that he did it - and noone is allowed to say a word about it ...

i think all the families need to get a grip sometimes -
hugs hon - you do what you want and dont mind what everyone else is saying or you'll loose your mind

When I was growing up, you would never wear white at a wedding or black. Today that just isnt the case. It doesnt matter what the color or the time of day. Its your wedding you do what you want. White is VERY CLASSY and SEXY!!! Do it your way!
