Ok, I cancelled my trip

Hey, as some of you might know because I have been posting about trying to find an alternate destination, I was supposed to leave this weekend for a vacation to El Dorado Royale in Mexico, but due to that b1tch-azz hurricane Wilma, it was cancelled.

We checked out the weather for the rest of the Caribbean, and it seems that every single island is storming right now. Eastern, Western, Southern - you name it - raining and tons of thunderstorms of suffering after effects of hurricanes.

So now we are not taking a trip to celebrate the start of our one year count down to our wedding. I am very bummed about this even though I know I should feel fortunate that I was able to take a vacation in the first place, and I should be happy that I am not suffering the first hand effects of the hurricane, but still, I am a whiny baby right now and I need hugs.

It's better to be safe... just think, you can do romantic stuff here, save the $$ and have a great time

Maybe you can go somewhere local... go to the poconos or upstate to apple pick!

I agree with Hollie-its better to be safe. Also, think about it as $$ saving situation...

Aruba is not totally out of the huricane belt -it can get the side effects of hurricanes

we had friends go down and it rained heavily every day - they were down when Ivan was in the carribean - other people could not get out of aruba because of the hurricane was close by

oh sweetie. I'm sorry. why don't you take advantage of the fall foliage or something and look UP (upstate, New England) you can still do something, even if it's not fun in the sun!

Besides you don't need a vacation to be romantic and celebrate your one year mark, you can do something special right here. Just have to be creative. Go do something the 2 of you have never done before!!

We're getting the full value of the hotel refunded back to us, but the airline will only give us a voucher for the dollar amount that we paid for the tickets that we have to use by August (when we booked.)

So, at least I'm 'forced' to take another trip before then!

We're going to take off next Friday and spend a three day weekend doing fun things like a day in the city, a day out east, and a day at home watching the whole season 4 of Alias on DVD. It's not a total loss.
