I'm sure The Boss is going to spend a lot of money in the offseason. They need starting pitchers and relief pitching. But I also think they are going to make some major trades.
They aint making any trades unless they eat the major portion of the salaries... almost making the trade not even worth it. If they want to improve their team... they will have to do it via the FA market.
Who would want Brown's 16mil salary? Nobody.
Who wants G-Man at 13mil? Nobody.
Who wants Mussina at 16mil? Nobody.
Who wants Jeter at 17mil? Definitely Nobody.
The only person I can see them possibly trading is Rodriquez... because Texas is already eating a portion of that salary. I think the Yanks are on the hook for somewhere between 12-15 mil of his slary.

Re: ok i gotta say it..no offense felicia..but those yanks..
They wont trade Jeter or A-Rod. Giambi will be a question mark depending on how he feels. But if they were willing to trade Jeter I can think of a couple of teams that would take him even at a high salary.I think Lofton is gone, Posada might be gone, I would not be surprised if they traded Mo (I wouldn't agree with it, but I wouldn't be surprised). I'm not sure what they will do about Bernie. I would like to think they will let him finish his career as a Yankee but I don't know for sure.
They will keep Moose, Brown is a goner with them eating up part of his salary. Almost the entire bullpen is going to be changed.

Re: ok i gotta say it..no offense felicia..but those yanks..
Jeter is a career yankee. Regardless of his salary... he ain't going anywhere.I don't think they can trade Mo till after June 1st of next year because he just signed an extension. But he aint going anywhere either.
I can easily see them trading A-Rod... he is getting old in NY very quickly... and the remainder of his salary is moveable IMO.
Nobody will take G-Man unless the Yanks eat at least half his salary.
Isn't Lofton a FA after this year?
Posada ain't going anywhere since they were unwilling to move him for the Unit.

I think they signed Lofton for 2 years. But let's be honest, the Yankees winning a world series is not going to come as a result of any trade with Kenny. They kept Posada during the season because they really didn't have a good back up and I feel that it would have killed this team to trade him during the season. He's like a mini-captain. But if they can get themselves a new catcher through a trade or FA (Varitek?) they will pull the plug on Jorge. Again not a move I like but changes have to happen somewhere.

Re: ok i gotta say it..no offense felicia..but those yanks..
Also... I have a feeling the Mets are going to seriously open their wallet this year. They have a good core of young under 30 players (Reyes if he can stay healthy, Wright, Zambrano, Benson (if resigned), Kaz, Cameron, and a couple of bullpen guys. They just signed a deal with Time Warner to launch their own cable network in 2006 (similar to YES). That deal brings in major money to the team. They also finally have somebody running the front office (Minaya) that knows how to evaluate talent and is tough (will not take Wilpon's BS). All they need is a decent manager (I am hoping for either Pinella or Valentine).
The Mets will make a run at Beltran... but they will also look for starting pitching help at Pavano, Clement, Morris, and maybe even Pedro.
And for once I can actually see the Mets currently being in a better situation financially than the Yanks. Their payroll is currently somewhere just under 100mil... so they have room to spend the cash on the PROPER talent (not band-aids like Brown, Seffield, A-rod).

as a met fan, i KNOW how this feels
That's exactly what Anthony said this morning. He has been extremely nice to me about it, much to my surprise. Said its because he can totally relate as a Mets fan .
Even told me to start getting used to the phrase 'wait until next year'
Yes, my dear. This is the utter dejection I feel every year.
I'll cook tonight, you can even have the remote.
