Ok lets start talking w/a controversial topic!

Ok, so maybe its not really controversial, but I'm sure some of you have an opinion on it.

A girl that I work with is a hardcore athiest. She doesnt believe in God, Jesus, etc. She is NOT agnostic, she believes that there is just NOTHING. Which is totally fine; everyone is entitled to their own belief system. What drives me crazy about this? SHE CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS. Does this irk anyone else?

sounds like she celebrates the over-commercialized version of it...now a days people don't seem to associate christmas with religion...sad but true

LOL that is pretty funny that she celebrates christmas even though she believes in NOTHING. I think I am personally more agnostic than anything, I'm not really sure what to believe in, I do think there is something though!

I know people like that too. I actually think that maybe there are just scared to think that there could be something so powerful in this world

It is kind of stupid that she celebrates Christmas. But then again, if she was raised celebrating Christmas then maybe she keeps doing it cause it reminds her of the warmth of the holiday season. I feel like a lot of people just celebrate it as a day for giving gifts anyway nowadays. Does she go all out and decorate with a tree and everything?

A lot of ppl celebrate christmas just for the fun of it not for religious reasons. That's the same reason I celebrate christmas.

Yup, she does the whole sha-bang! Which I wouldnt even care about if she wasnt so vocal and outspoken about insisting there is no God!

Hmmm. I don't know about this one. Yes, Christmas is about the birth of Christ - but sometimes I feel like even Christians forget that!

I think anyone who celebrates Christmas by being with their family and being kind and charitable is celebrating the spirit of Christmas and that is NOT a bad thing.

However. ANYONE, even a Christian that 'celebrates' Christmas by being materialistic and getting caught up in the commercialism is NOT understanding the meaning of Christmas and THAT irks me more than anything.

I totally understant that not everyone is super religious, etc, but to be so over the top vocal about insisting on the stupidity of the notion of God, adn then to celebrate christmas in any capacity? It irks me. I'm sure it doesnt help that I just dont LIKE her.

I do think that may offend me too - not sure though unless I was confronted with it in real life. . .

I'd probably call her on it and say, 'So why do you celebrate Christmas'? But then again, I guess a lot of people dont really celebrate it for the religious aspect of it anymore.

It doesn't irk me....i think she should be allowed to celebrate whatever holiday she wants.
My mother is Jewish (dad is Catholic), and she celebrates Christmas! She loves to decorate and cook and bake for her loved ones...She sees it as a time for family to be together, and basically celebrate life and family. My parents have lots of people over on Christmas, Jewish and Catholic. I think everyone should celebrate Christmas as a time of loving and giving.

Also, the world revolves around Christmas for 2-3 months, companies close, vacations are forced, and everything is closed on Dec 25, so what else IS there to do on that day but celebrate!?!!

btw, i would probably be considered agnostic.

it makes me sad that so many people insist that Christmas is no longer a religious holiday - it isn't the MOST important Christian holiday but it is the birth of our Lord. . . can't get much more religious than that!

Thats what would annoy me about it too. The fact that she goes out of her way to insult the notion of religion out loud and then put up Xmas decorations. I wonder if she puts the little baby Jesus under the tree too! That would be really stupid!

I think its different. Your mom is not insulting the religion and then celebrating a part of it. My step father is Jewish and celebrates XMas with us too. The fact that she goes out of her way to insult it and then lights her tree is ridiculous to me.

NOW, what IRKS me is this:

People who get insulted when you say 'Have a Merry Christmas!' and they expect you to say 'Happy Holidays' because they are Jewish or whatever (Growing up in a half Jewish family has showed me that Jews love to complain, btw) If I say Merry Chrismas, I am wishing you a Happy Dec 25 and the surrounding season.

So if you're insulted when i wish you a merry Christmas, then forget you, I hope you have a crappy Dec 25! I hope your car breaks down, and your dinner burns!
