ok, so I work in a lab and just looked up bells palsy on some medical sites for you.

It looks like most of the time its just caused when a nerve in the face gets swollen and gets pinched. It can be caused by a few things, a cold/flu, herpes virus (cold sores), or the virus that causes the chicken pox. Does your dad have or had any of these? It can also just be a random thing if his nerve got pinched.

Apparently 90% of the time, it goes away on its own, and there is a small chance of recurrence.

No worries chica, chances are your dad will be fine!!!! But I will keep him in my prayers

OMG
He had like somthing in his lip, He pulled it and it started bleeding... Ever since the bleedin he felt his lips numb.... So maybe this thing that he has caused him this???

I had a friend who had it and it rook a while but it completely reversed itself and never came back.

Basically its the paralysis of a nerve in the face. Some people have drooping of the mouth or eye that looks like a stroke but isnt.

They'll give him steroids. Maybe prednisone not sure and in a few weeks he should feel better.

Vero it's not life threatening. He will not die from it ok? He'll just have to wait until the nerve isnt inflammed anymore and he'll be ok.

Doctor said daddy has Bell's Palsy .....

I bet thats exactly it! It will most probably just go away. It seems to be fairly common. Like Amy said, they will probably give him something for it and he will never see it again!

My dad had this happen a few years ago and it went away in a couple weeks. He has no ill side effects and you would NEVER know he was ever paralyzed for a brief period of time. The only thing he couldn't do during that 2 week period was wear his contacts (which he was pissed about), but everything is fine now. The doctors told him that it's pretty common but sounds scary!

buttt if his just his lip is numb, that is not Bells Palsy

Bells Palsy is a paralysis of the nerve in the face...and it causes one side of the face to be numb and not work properly

no one knows the cause, some sources think it may be viral

it normally resolves on its own

BUT...if only his lip is numb then I doubt this is what he has
also, if he had something on his lip and pulled it off and then the numbness started and its only in his lip...also makes me think this is less likely the cause
