OK, no way in HELL! stop the STUPIDITY! : Katrina does NOT equal 9/11

Original post by Xelindrya

***?

are you kidding me?

these ppl had warning.

I went into work that day on a sunshine blue day i had NO warning.

This is apples and oranges

9/11 was an attack
Katrina is an act of GOD

I am fed up with this BS

4 year anniversay is coming
Katrina is devasting

BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME

they do not equal in tradgey either.

9/11 was 3000 people dying in mass attack in a matter of moments.

Katrina was a long time coming and deaths are STILL happening

9/11 was a shock and brutal
Katrina was massive but nearly predictable.

those who disagree...... well to each their own I guess, but this is driving me nuts

i agree with you 100000000000000000000000000000% I feel so horrirble for these victims however, they were told to get out. If they told us to leave LI b/c of a huge storm, I'd be out! I don't know why so many people thought they'd be okay, what were they thinking.

I wish there was more I could do to help them now and the re-building is going to be horrible for them, but I really think they should have left when told to do so.

I'm sorry, but I am so tired of people blaming the individuals that stayed. I have no idea what their reasons were, but I am sure that they did not expect the levies to give way and flood the entire region. Most of the people live in conditions that most of us can't comprehend. Its not so black and white. I mean, I don't see people fleeing everytime the terror level is raised here in NYC. Does that mean that if there is an attack we should all be left to die and blamed for our own deaths?

I feel the SAME way!!! If you knew you could leave, then WHY DIDN'T YOU???!??

A lot of the people literally had no money, car, other family, or means of getting out. I agree if you could and didn't, that was foolish, but there's a larger socioeconomic issue here.

9/11 and Katrina should not be compared. They are both miserably sad for the people affected, but there is NO point in comparing this misery. It helps no one.

Like I said before.

If anyone wants to come out and say that Katrina does not equal 9/11 (implying that 9/11 was much worse)....

... I am sorry but that is just NYC bias.

I just watched the Dateline special on Katrina that was taped last week.

To put it in a nutshell.... New Orleans is seriously f*cked!

Its THAT bad there.

Hopefully they can learn how to come together and help each other they way we did after 9/11!

They need our support!

*applause*

I think it's easy for us to say we would have left. For you or me spending a couple hundred bucks to get on a plane would be an inconvenience but it would be doable. i think if you're poor, you don't want to spend money you don't have and miss work because of a hurricaine that may or may not cause devastation. I don't think anyone really thinks it will happen to them and I don;t think anyone really thought the devastation would be so great. It was sos ad to see people on tv leaving their homes and saying goodbye to their homes forever.

yeah...
of course.
I mean why didn't the families living below the poverty line making 19k a year take out their platinum visa cards and charge a hotel room that they can drive to in their gas guzzling SUVs???

Oh yeah, that's right- they are POOR....

Wait a minute now. I know that if it was me and it was a matter of life or death (Live if I leave, die if I stay) I would go whether or not I had a place to go!! So you can't afford a hotel? I would live in my 'gas guzzling SUV' for a day or two until shelters were set up and I could go to one. Stay and die because you can't afford a hotel room?????

Most of these people did try to get to shelters( i.e the superdome, which so happened to get 2 big holes in it) and if they they couln'd walk fast enough to the shelter they got injured or died trying to get out.

I agreem no comparison, but both are hearbreaking...also not a fan of the NY Post calling Katrina 'Our Tsunami.' I think that is in very poor taste, over 100,000 people died in the Tsunami, and there really was no warning there....

I think the real tradgey with katrina is that it is on going-

after 9/11 most people - except the people living down town- had a home to go home to

whole familes are displaced to different sates-

people were here helping us with in minutes

to say one is worse then the other really isn't fair - there were warning signs for both that government INGNORED for years-

I don't think they are comparable- they are both hoffic events that will forever change America
