how tacky is it to have a wedding without an mc? has anyone had a reception (or been to one) without an MC and did the crowd still go crazy and have just as much fun? we're definetely on a budget and im not really willing to cut corners when it comes to my photographer and such, so i was thinking maybe i could save like 400 bucks on not having an MC and just having the DJ. please help!

I think it is FINE! I think the MC is more for larger crowds. An extra person helps, otherwise, the DJ can handle it.

Personally, I'm not crazy about having an MC. Sometimes I think that they can be too annoying. Our DJ will be the dj and mc. I think it's totally your preference.

I haven't begun my search on DJ's do unfortunately I can't recommend anyone-- however I have been to weddings without MCs -- but their music was good so people were on that dance floor! (I am also looking for no MC)
I have also been to weddings with MCs that have gotten carried away and made it more like a Sweet 16-- so you have to be careful about how overboard they go with it too!!

as long as you have a good dj, the music will do the work for you... good music, good food and drinks is all anyone needs i think you can def cut a corner by not having an mc
Kimberly- you don't need an MC. That's just thier way of making more money. If you need someone who is inexpensive and will get the party moving try Frank from FM Entertainment. I booked on the spot. He really was fantastic and I have no music worries for the day of my wedding.
edit: If your worried about someone announcing you, the dance songs, cake cutting, garter toss, and all that other stuff- Frank does that! He does the whole shabang!

he will only do announcements and then not talk . . .lol so your DJ can do some announcements
that should be fine!

i was at a wedding that had a dj but no mc.... someone finally volunteered to do the mc honors... one of the guests. it was pretty nondescript without the MC IMO. maybe you could get a family member or friend to volunteer to help cut costs, but i wouldnt go wtihout alltogether. whose going to announce you guys??
we got a good deal for around 2k with a dj and an mc. i thought that was pretty reasonable. we didnt do the lights and fog and flat screens though...lol
good luck!

I used Vinny from High Voltage. He acted as a MC when it was need (introducting the wedding party, first dance, mother / son dance, and last dance of the night) So Vinny was DJ and MC and it worked perfectly. He didn't talk too much and he announced the appropriate things when it was needed.

I would rather have more dancing and less talking... therefore- no MC for me.

We didn't have an MC at our wedding at everything went fine. We hired a DJ that we knew could make announcements when necessary and everything was perfect. There was NEVER a moment that the dance floor was empty. It also depends on your crowd, we knew that our friends and family would be up no matter so we knew we could get away with it.

We also used Vinny as our DJ and MC. We had people dancing all night and we heard a lot of compliments about our DJ after the fact.
I dislike MCs (or Djs for that matter) that talk constantly or try to force people to dance..HUGE pet peeve of mine!

It's absolutely FINE to forego the MC. I've been to weddings and parties with both the DJ and MC and with just the DJ. I can't say I really noticed a difference!

I only hired a DJ, no MC. I think it really depends on your crowd. If they are going to get up and dance no matter what, no MC is necessary at all. If they are a bunch of wallflowers that will not move without motivation, you might want to consider an MC>

I just booked my DJ and did not get an MC - They told me if you have a fun party crowd that doesn't need any help getting on the dance floor - there's really no need for it. Vinny from High Voltage -seems great and really honest - he didn't try to sell me anything extra that I didn't want. Prices are really good to.:)

My DJ is also acting as the MC. I don't think you need both. If the DJ is good, he will get people out of their seats and going crazy!

If you're having a small wedding then I don't think an mc is necessary. It also depends on the crowd. If you are having a fun crowd then they should be able to have fun on their own!

It's not necessary to have an MC. If you feel comfortable with your DJ then go with it!!!

We recently just booked our DJ (Vinny from High Voltage) and we decided not to have an MC. We kind of already had our minds made up when we met with Vinny - but for our families and friends, it's not worth the extra money. Our guests will not need help getting up to dance. It's a personal preference.
