I have a feeling I'm going to be making a LOT of phone calls. (Just what I feel like doing amidst all the other Wedding chaos).
We are still waiting to get like 30 response cards back (so figure around 60 people)- in about a week! I haven't gotten a response in 3 days!!!

It has the damn stamp on it, just put it in the mail!!!!!!!!!

People are SO ANNOYING.. It's like they purposely wait until it will arrive right on the RSVP date.. It says RSVP BY: Not RSVP ON or LATER

This part is going to annoy me!

I'm also missing about 35, my rsvp is Oct 9. I think one or two days before they will start rolling in and then a couple days after.

If they are more than 5 days late, I'm going to say

'Mom heres YOUR people to call'
'Dad heres YOUR people to call'
'FFIL heres YOUR people to call'
'FMIL heres YOUR people to call'

I refuse to call anyone but our friends.

Wow, I have said this a couple of times in recent weeks, but as a group we seem to be asking for really early RSVP dates. Typically, caterers do not need a final head count any more than 2 weeks (at most three) prior to an event...why ask for them so early? I understand that there is the curiosity factor -- ie just wanting to know, and certainly if you are doing something like custom favors where you need a precise number but otherwise, why do you put 5-6 weeks prior? I am not at all trying to be critical I am just curious. I completely sympathize with you guys -- why it is so hard to mail a pre-stamped envelope escapes me.

As for how to handle, my advice remains the same. WAIT for at least one week after RSVP date -- remember lots of people put the card on frig or calendar and actually send it out on that date -- so you get quite a few that week. Then, not you, but the least worked family member or BP member calls each person/family ONCE, no VM, no message, to say, Hi, I am calling about the Jones/Johnson wedding. We certainly hope you will be joining us but we had not received your reply and need the final head count for the caterer. I am calling to ask if you will be attending. If we do not hear from you at the following number in 48 hours then we will assume with regret that you cannot make it. Thank you very much.

I made my rsvp 6 or maybe 7 weeks before my wedding. I figured by the time I got them all in, it would more like 4 weeks before. I just wanted to have plenty of time to do my seating, and whatever else I have to do (no clue). I would prefer not to have to do anything that week b/c its Thanksgiving.

The woman who did my invites actually made that RSVP date. (Just under 5 weeks before the Wedding).
I think it's a good amount of time though. I know seating is going to be a real PITA, some people are doing favors & need the time to order/put them together. There are going to be people who don't RSVP that we're going to have to call, I really don't want to call tons of people like 2 weeks before my Wedding when I'm trying to get other things done.

A lot of people wait until the last minute to get the cards in the mail. I dont know why guests do this - but it's one of the single most common complaints brides have. You will probably get a bunch after this weekend and more as the deadline approaches.

I always thought 4-5 weeks was average.

Our caterer required a good estimated head count four weeks proir to the wedding.

You also need an accurate guest list to finalize favors, do the seating arrangements, place cards, programs etc. You need more then two weeks to get that all done while finishing up everything else with the wedding.

Hi! I am right behind you! Invitations go out tomorrow for us and I know a ton of people won't send them back. It's going to be a stressful couple of weeks!!!

Ok so rsvp 4-5 weeks prior, just want to make sure I get this straight. so that means i should mail them out 2 or 3 months prior to the wedding date?

I actually made my date on 9/24 for a 10/15 wedding, and am still waiting for some RSVPS. We have lots of out of towners who we knew would not come, but a lot of them didn't bother to send back the card, which annoys me. Like, we sent you an invite out of politeness, and now you can't return the favor?

Re: OK, so my RSVP date is Oct 8th, and I still haven't gotten MANY Responses!!!

I'm probably going to get a beat down for this, but...

Have you been prompt to respond to other people's parties?

I have an RSVP card that isn't due back until October 15. I got the invitation last month.

These people had to be reminded to mail in their RSVP's for my wedding. So, guess what-I'm not putting this one in the mail until October 11.

I know it's not nice, but I have ALWAYS responded to parties within a matter of a few days of being invited. So, for everyone who I had to beg to respond to my wedding, they are getting the same treatment back...

Now, if you have always been a quick responder, than it's completely uncool that your guests are doing this to you. But, believe me, when it's their turn they will get their's...

That's really good advice. I printed that out to use when phone calls have to be made for our wedding, as I am sure they will. Thanks!!
