Escort out is standard here due to Client Confidentiality and possible Non-Compete agreements in place. You can't take Client info with you, highly sensetive. Nor can you take any Company work product with you.
It's sort of like they don't trust you. At least that's the way it is here. The higher you go the faster you're out. Even if it's a voluntary quit. Most people in my office don't put in notice unless they're sure they can walk out that day without looking back. It's rare they keep anyone above AVP after a notice is put in.

I've been in that situation before (sitting there while other people are being escorted out). It really is awkward and uncomfortable especially if you know the people very well. They escort them out so they don't retaliate and delete necessary files etc.
Hang in there. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Ughhhhh...I went through the exact same thing a couple of years ago. It was so hard to watch people that I'd worked with for 10 years be escorted out. Eventually, I was one of them.
Good luck and lots of to you

I know how you feel girlfriend.
I worked at Acclaim a few years ago and they went through several rounds of eliminations during my stay there. The problem is, they would do it on Friday after they bought the company a HUUUGGE italian lunch. Then they would tell you to go to your seat and wait. You weren't even allowed to get up to go to the bathroom or use the phone. So you were sitting there, ready to vomit after eating 'The Last Supper', etc. just waiting for your name to be called. I had a seat just outside of the conference room where they were doing their package processing and I saw many of my friends be shuffled in. When it was over (for the 3rd time in my employment there), I ran to the bathroom, puked my guts up, cried and then went looking for another job. The stress was too much....

Hang in there-it's a terrible feeling to be made to wait without any more info.
Escorting people out is pretty common in most companies. They need to protect their interests. Unfortunately it just adds to the humiliation.

Re: Ok, time to fasten my seatbelt....heads are rolling.
I hope everything goes well for you. My company went through this 2 years ago. We came back from New years vacation to find the computers all off and the network down...We werent allowed to go on the computer...we just had to sit at our desks and wait to find out if we were one of the people that were called down stairs for an exit interview...Unfortunately I wasnt one of the lucky people that got laid off. I know that sounds wierd to say, but If I knew now what I know about this company....I would of wanted to be one of those people that got laid off. My department lost 18 people that day...

Good luck Misty... I know how stressful it is. My some miracle I've already survived 3 rounds of layoffs since I've been with my current company, but I know how awful the anticipation is.
Just remember that when one door closes another one always opens!

Good luck, Misty
Why are they escorting people out????? That sounds extreme.
unfortunately, this is usually the case when people are laid off....so that they don't try and take revenge on the company's email system or back up any of their work for themselves, etc.
Lay-offs are never fun - Lord knows we've had our share over here too
