OMG
My Professor from last semester died on NYE - the law school just announced it on their website.
First of all, I took this man last year too and he got very sick and was absent without a substitute for 6 weeks straight b/c he was ill. They re-used an old exam of his b/c he was too ill to write a new one. That might not sound major, but in my law school all the old exams are published so students can practice on them. So, this was an exam that anyone who studied had already done. THEN, he was too sick to grade them so they gave the entire class Bs. Might not sound major, but in law school this could be the difference between getting the job you want and not getting it, and for some people, the differnce between keeping your scholarship or losing it.
He got better, came back to school and readjusted the grades. He is a very nice man so I decided to take him again. He seemed much healthier and totally lucid all semester. He seemed sad - always talking about what happened to him last year, but still so smart and on the ball. He gained back all the wait he lost and everything. This was a paper class, so we all turned in our papers and he said he'd have grades by December 10th. Those grades never came (still haven't) and then a friend told me he saw the Professor using a walker around school during exams. I was surprised by this, because he definitely did not need one the last I saw him.
Now the University just puts on the website that he passed away on NYE. I am SHOCKED. And, now I've spent a full year of school with this man as a Professor. I am so sad, it feels strange to know he isn't out there. To top that all off, he never turned in grades, so the University will now most likely scr*w us all over again. I feel selfish even worrying about it, but I have to admit it crossed my mind.
Wow - I am BUMMED.
