I heard this thing on the radio this AM and was totally blown away.
The DJ had recently recieved an invite to a wedding, the wedding is in Jan. '08 - the couple explained the reason they were sending the invite out so early was that instead of registering they wanted asked their guest to 'sponsor' items at the wedding.
For example one guest could buy the cake, another could pay for a few dinners, or contribute towards a photographer etc.
I couldn't imagine asking my guests to 'sponsor a few dinners' at my wedding.
Has anyone ever heard of this before!?!

I was blown away when I read this post!!!! That is TACKY!!!!! I can't believe some people would actually ask for that!!!! If you can't afford to have a BIG wedding then don't. It is about the MARRIAGE not the WEDDING!!!! Some People have no CLASS!!!!

Well yeah, I wouldn't put it on my invitation, that's tacky.
But I know some of his friends asked what they could pay for for the wedding and I explained to them that we weren't doing that.
If your family and close friends want to do that, that's great, but to ask others to go in on it is crazy.
I agree--if they ask or volunteer that's one thing. I had one of my cousins do that and she paid for favors and flowers as a present, but she told me she'd do that.
To ask your guests outright is another thing....

Sponsored weddings were a trend a few years ago (Starr Jones was like the poster child for it).
Usually people ask companies to sponsor them though and not friends and relatives. At least with companies, they can gain some kind of advertising opportunities. That's all so tacky!
Woah! Wait- did she actually have a sponsered wedding? i didn't follow her wedding so im not sure what happened.
