so this morning it really hit me that i'm such a 'wife' and to take it one step further...a latina wife.
i was up getting ready for work, when i realized, hey why not prepare the meat for dinner tonite? so i busted out the garlic and my old school wooden pillon (that's what my mom calls it, it's a mortar and pestel) and mashing it all up and rubbing it all over the pork with some adobo...at like 8 a.m. this morning.
so now when i go home i just have to make the rice & beans and fry the chops and bam! dinner is done! holy crap...i'm a wife who prepares dinner for my husband and i in the morning!!!!
i'm like grown up and stuff.

ahhh! good for you...i felt the same way this week...i was home from work, nad i stayed and my FH houe, and cooked dinner ALMOST :) everynight....i am almost as bad as jessica simpson too...but his week was fun!...now back to work...playing house is over..lol...cant wiat for october when its for real!

You're a good wife!!! I love that you have time to prepare dinner in the morning. I stay in bed until the last second possible then I run around like a maniac, have a panic attack that I will be late then I walk into the office with 5 mins to spare and think thats 5 mins of sleep I could have had. At 6pm it's me and George Foreman if it can't be cooked on that grill it's not being made by me!

These are so much fancier than mine or any that i've seen my mom use. lol but you get the idea. it's just a mortar and pestle. back in the old days it was used to mash up stuff...especially pharmacists. but my ppl use in the kitchen.
my #1 use for it is take whole garlic cloves...pouring a little salt in it and then mashing the hell out of it, until it's like a creamy paste. most of my marinades start with the pilon (that's the spanish word for it)
i have to admit i had never even HEARD of a garlic press until i was like 18 years old...lol...i just thought EVERYBODY uses a pilon to mash things! LOL

Oh wow! I've never seen a metal one. We have a marble one at home that my older aunt gave my mom. I plan on pilfering it when I leave

I must confess I usually cheat and use a spice grinder for the spices, and only add them to the garlic and other herbs afterwards.....
I used to have seed (especially cardamom) flying across the kitchen while trying to crush them I attribute that to bad technique
