I was sitting at my computer desk typing on LIW when something caught my eye. I peeked out of my window and saw 2 kids run through my backyard and behind my garage!!!! We have had a problem in the past with someone breaking into our garage ( its like a huge shed with windows) so I picked up the phone and was about to call the police. I decided first since my truck was parked in the driveway to hit the panic button. Well the alarm went off and they RAN like the wind out of there!! There were 4 teenage kids!!!!
I opened the window and started yelling at them and they apologized for scaring me. They cut school and were at a friends house and went behind my garage to smoke!!
I told them next time I see them they are getting arrested for trespassing and to go back to school!!! They are only 13!!!!
*** Ok now what do I do. The 'Friend' they were visiting is the kid who lives next door to us. His mother just got re-married last weekend and is on her honeymoon right now!! DH says I should not say anything. (I know for a fact he is cutting school and he is not supposed to have anyone over) I also caught him last week sneaking a girl out of his bedroom window!!! and again he is only 13 As a mother I would want to know but they are also my MIL's tenants and I don't know if I should get involved. Shes a really really good mom and always tries to keep him out of trouble

If I was that mom, I would want to know. Ask your MIL opinion first, but I would tell.

if the kids mother is on her honeymoon who is watching that kid. thats all he his is a kid!!!! me i probally call the cops. it probally wasnt cigs that they were smoking either. so they would get busted for that!!!!!!!!!

Well he is with his biological father on the weekends but I guess since his dad works and he has to go to school..... I know he takes the bus to and from school. I dont know where his little sister is
I feel bad b/c when they first moved here 2 years ago he was soooooooooo sweet and polite. I never met such a polite well spoken kid. He used to even come and ask if I needed him to take the garbage out for me. Its the little punks he hangs out with. At least he wasnt back there smoking as well

How does a mom go off on her honeymoon and leave a 13 year old w/o adult supervision? Sorry but he is a minor and she is legally responsible. What if he had a party and someone was hurt or gravely injured and she wasn't there? She would face a lawsuit and possibly be ruined for life.
My Dad remarried in 1986 and the four kids theey had between them were teenagers. They didn't trust us enough (we were honor society material) and we were 19, 16, 14, 12. My stepsister was legally an adult and they said no way. They didn't have a honeymoon because they put their parental responsibilities first.
I would want to call the cops.
Sorry for the tone, I teach high school and I can't tell you how many 'teenagers violating the law' stories I heard today. When's the last day of school.

i know that you said your mil's motto is myob...but this kid is in her house...so it is her business. You should tell her...and let her know that you are only mentioning it, becaue its her house and you think that she should know...just in case anything else happens.

I agree. I wouldn't call the cops unless it happens again, but I would mention what happened to the Mom when she gets back.

As a mom - I would tell. If his mom really cares which I assumes she does she would want to know and steer him in the right direction. I really would let her know. Some kids and parents need a wake up call every so often.

PLEASE - do the KID a favor and tell the mom!!!!
Or...talk to the kid and let him know b/c of that incident, you don't want to be the bad guy, but if you see him cutting again, you will feel obligated to tell his mom. Ask him not to put you in that position. That should work on a 13 year old.
