To me it looked as if she was shocked. I LOVE Janet, and I refuse to believe that she would do something so offensive.

MTV apologises for Super Bowl boob

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Move over Madonna and Britney -- their onstage kiss may be upstaged by singer Janet Jackson's bodice-ripping at a Super Bowl performance.

Jackson turned heads on Sunday night during a half-time appearance with Justin Timberlake during the Carolina Panthers-New England Patriots game, bumping and grinding through a duet. Just as the song came to its close, Timberlake reached for Jackson and tore part of her black leather bustier, revealing one breast.

Stage lights at Houston's Reliant Stadium immediately went black, leaving millions of football fans watching the CBS network broadcast wondering whether the peek-a-boo act was intentional.

'I'm sorry if anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl,' Timberlake said. 'It was not intentional and is regrettable.'

Music television channel MTV, which produced the half-time entertainment for the National Football League's championship game, apologised for the undressing.

'The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance,' MTV said in a statement.

But some viewers may not be convinced that the two singers were not raising the threshold on shocking behaviour, mindful of how pop icon Madonna and Britney Spears grabbed headlines with a kiss during the MTV Music Video Awards in August.

'Shocking as it was, it was not a mistake. It's really sad. How are we going to up the ante next?' said Barbara Lippert, advertising critic at trade report AdWeek.

The NFL was also not impressed.

'We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show,' said NFL Executive Vice President Joe Browne.

'They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show,' he added. 'It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime.'

In another public display, a streaker held up the game for several minutes prior to the second-half kickoff as he paraded around the field and then took off in an attempt to elude security.

He was ultimately knocked down by New England Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham and hauled off the field by a group of security personnel. The incident was kept off the air.

I have a hard time believing that it was not planned. it happened so fast so i don't remember exactly but it didn't seem that janet was shocked it happened---and if she was, she played it off really well for the cameras. glad to know CBS won't be giving MTV the rights to the half time show anymore!

I highly doubt the 'accident' was unintentional, but I don't see the uproar that it's causing in some areas! I do think it was stupid and it shouldn't have been done, but there are worse things to have happened. Even the grinding and dancing they were doing was risque.....!!

On another note, can you imagine being completely naked, and KNOCKED down by a linebacker??!! OUCH!!!

My daughter was watching

YUCK!!! (I HATE nipple piercings)

It was so planned!!! And so distasteful!! Alot of young kids were watching!! How do you explain that to them!!

My brother was over watching it with my DH and I watched the 1/2 time how with them. My brother said 'Did he just pull he top off?' and I thought we just somehow saw it wrong.

I think it was in terrible taste to do it at the Superbowl with kids watching or attending. Nice way to make your family look classier Janet.

its all BS to get publicity!!!! its pathetic that they have to go this low to get noticed...

Wow all I can say is that is a serious close up!

I am so pissed off about this it's unreal.

Don't you just love when people claim it's the parents responsibility to monitor what their children are watching/seeing...and that it's their fault if they can't find a way to explain this stuff to their children? I've heard this about 4 times already today and I'm amazed. How is a parent expected to 'monitor' this....a parent who sits down with his/her entire family to watch the Superbowl, a yearly tradition and an extended 'holiday' in the US? It's EXPECTED that the Superbowl entertainment will be G-rated, even if the game is a violent one, because this is a FAMILY event. Every year before this it was kept clean. WTF?! Justin had to prove something to Britney? Janet had to prove that her new boobs are as perkey as Beyonce's? ARGH! TO HELL WITH THESE NO TALENT IDIOTS!

This wasn't at fault of the NFL or CBS...it yet AGAIN was at fault of MTV, and as long as they are looked to as the eyes and ears of this 'generation'...we will continue to get this ridiculous garbage on our airwaves and in our children's eyes whether we 'monitor' it or not! I just loved my 8 year old nephew turning to me with his mouth wide open saying 'oh my gosh her booby is out!'. Yeah, that's football.
