OMG...FMIL has either gone insane or really, really tried to scare me.

So she's been struggling with what to wear and FFIL will likely be weighing in heavily as he often does (after 30 years, she doesn't argue it). Well, she visited her mother last night and today has these rather scary looking dresses on her bed............

dress #1 is the same dress her mother wore to FH's aunt's wedding....in 1990....it's PINK sequined and the bottom is all frilly satin...and it's not a floor length dress...it's like a calf length overdoing it cocktail dress....in fact, when we watched the aunt's wedding video a few months ago, FMIL pointed it out and remarked at how ugly the dress was to her then and now.

dress#2 is that horribly cheap material that stretches but isn't clingy....and it's like black with threads of shimmering colors throughout...i didn't see it very well, but i'm sure shoulder pads are involved.

dress#3 is this hideous number that i actually thought was FMIL's BM dress from the aunt's wedding....but it wasn't...it's actually another one from her mom.....ready for this??? it's dark green (remember my BMs are wearing BRIGHT RED) and has this huge poufy skirt, fitted bodice and, you guessed it, BIG POUFY SLEEVES....think chorus girls from the 80s.

she was laughing as she asked for my opinion so thinking she was kidding about considering them, i actually told her EXACTLY what i thought of them....hell no!!!

she got mad and told me that i couldn't decide what everyone wears. really? i pointed out that i had thus far, right down to her husband. (btw, FH's cheapass brother was trying to get out of paying for his tux rental by wearing FFIL's tux (FFIL is a size 36 or 38 AT LEAST and FBIL is MAYBE a 34 while bloated)....so they decided to ask me the other night if all the GMs tuxes needed to match!!!! are you kidding me???? of course they do. back to the dresses....it became rather obvious rather quickly that she had really been serious about these dresses and REALLY REALLY REALLY likes this horribly hideous green one. she tried to tell me it was vintage.....i asked her to tell me which shop she'd seen it in recently that didn't say vintage on the sign. it's not vintage, it's from 1987 and her mom probably wore it to someone else's wedding that year. i cna't believe she would seriuosly consider these dresses to her son's wedding....i may have to go all BRIDEZILLA on her and really protest this....i am just dumbfounded....not only is it that ugly, but you would sooooooooo see this dress coming like a mile away...with no one in it, it was HUGE. and she asked (the boutique) what the moms are supposed to wear, she was told muted, light colors (ivory, cream, tans, champagnes...)....tell me where hunter green falls into that category please????

honestly sweetie try and laugh this one off....i mean if she really is gonna wear some ugly old used dresses to her sons wedding than thats her problem.......think of how m any pics she is actually going to have in your ALBUM.and honestly im wouldnt be surprised if she is just trying to mess with you.....i mean unmatching tuxes? give me a break! does FH realize how irrational these people are!!!! take and deep breath!!!

FBIL was actually ticked that he couldn't wear his dad's tux!!! they really thought it would be OK....the thing that bugs me is that they aren't unsophisticated people....they (usually) have taste and the $$ isn't an issue, so why she felt compelled to wear any one of those dresses??? ugh.

she was also told that she shouldn't be dressed in a way that would draw attention...this green dress would definitely draw attention.

FH got all mad at ME and told me i needed some tact....um, she ASKED for my opinion. he was worried i would be barefoot at the wedding...he might need to worry about his mom more.

I am sorry... but your emails are always so funny. I have to laugh!

OK... now I feel your pain. Maybe 'something' can happen to the green dress?

She's got to be kidding - there is no way she could go from hating a dress in a video to loving it enough to put it in the running to wear to her son'e wedding! If she is serious about the greeen monstrosity, maybe just reminding her that the bm's are wearing red would make her realize that the bride will be coming down the aisle, not Santa Claus! GOOD LUCK!!!

She'll look like a fool, not you... don't worry about it!

what does your FH say? It's his mom... he's going to be the one who's going to be embarrassed by any one of those outfits she's considering. These pictures are going to me seen forever. She's going to be one of the centers of attention.

That's just it...his bosses are likely coming and I can only imagine what they'll think of it....and the Santa Claus vibe that would be going on....yes, I pointed out the xmas colors to her....she didn't seem to care....honestly, she better be kidding. My aunt bothered to email me and ask what she should wear...ankle or calf-length....now, I know she has some sense so I told her that either is fine because for the most part, I just want friends and family there, I don't care what they wear.

I even have a friend coming that asked what she should wear and I told her and then she said that dresses and skirts aren't really her thing and could she wear really nice capris and a cute top (i know her idea of cute so i'm not scared) and I told her that if she would be more comfortable in that then it was fine....but she would be a very insignificant part of the day (not that I don't care if she's there....you know what i mean though) so really, her attire isn't an issue. But FMIL is a significant part of the day and these dresses had better not make an appearance....I might be mortified if they do.
