One bathroom Houses

One bathroom Houses

Any of you live in a house with one bathroom?? Im finding so many houses that are pretty cute, but then I realize there is only one bathroom... Im not sure how inconvienant this may be, or if it is livable?? What do you guys think?? Would you plan to add another bathroom to the house??

I guess I have always been spoiled... my parents have always had a master bathroom, then us kids have had a bathroom to share, then there was a half bath for guests...

I grew up with only one bathroom and so did most of my friends.....and we made it!!

Alot of the homes I am looking at have only one as well. Oh Well! Ideally I would love 1 1/2 baths.

Good Luck!

Re: One bathroom Houses

Same as what would happen in a one bathroom apartment, they wait. Danielle and I have a 1 bathroom apartment and so far we havent had any problems...When we buy a house I would want at least 1.5 bathrooms...We have seen so many houses that only have 1 bathroom, and if there isnt a way to build one on in the future then I wouldnt want to buy that house.

We have a list of things we want in a house and 1.5 baths plus is one of them.

I grew up (5 of us altogether) with one bathroom so I am used to it. If you are used to having more than one, it might be annoying, but like the other posters said, I survived.

In my old house we had 3 full bathrooms....My brother in law built one on upstairs when my sister and him were living up there...That was awesome. It is wierd, A lot of the houses we have looked at dont even have a master bathroom....I grew up with one

I grew up with 4 people in a 4 1/2 bathroom house so I was spoiled! Sharing 1 with DH seems like a lot! But, he grew up with 5 people and 1 bathroom. I think you just need to learn to respect privacy but also take quick showers! Even now if he really has to pee, I don't mind if he comes in when I am in the shower, and vice versa. He'll be showering when I am brushing teeth, etc.

Its totally livable, but I shared a one bathroom apt long enough to know that I wouldn't buy a house with only one bath...

I like the bathroom to be MINE when I'm in there

It definitely decreases the value of the house. DH and I used to live in an apartment that only had one bathroom. I found it really annoying.

My family grew up in a 1 bathroom house, there were 4 of us. You just get used to it. Adding a bath isn't usually that hard, and increases the value of the home so much.

I grew up in a house that had 2.5 baths and when I moved in with my dad his had 7.

Hubby and I only have one now and it is fine. The only PITA thing is that it is on the first floor and our bedroom is on the second. We do plan on putting in a second bathroom upstairs once we have kids. That is if we stay and expand versus move.

Of course it's liveable! Not ideal, but you can manage I grew up with 2 baths but lived with DH in an apt with 1 for 5 yrs.

We first looked only at houses with 2 baths+ but the market was just getting more and more insane. We finally decided to open our search to 1 bdrm houses and found ours. There's room for a 2nd bathroom so we'll have one installed.

I am one of 6 kids and I grew up in a house with 1.5 baths. I guess sharing the bathroom was always as it seemed and we had no problems with it. I also lived in an apartment for several years with one bathroom. In our house now, we have 3 full bathrooms. We are so spoiled, and I could never go back to less than 2. If it only had one, I would consider the house if I could add a bathroom on.

We have a high ranch and rent out the lower half so upstairs we only have 1 bathroom. If someone is showering and other has to pee, we just go in. I mean, we're married, so who cares. If he is brushing his teeth and I have to pee nad enough I will go in! We're going to add a half bath soon just because we are trying to get pregnant and dont want to sare a bathroom with the kids. I also grew up in a 1 bathroom home and it was fine!

We too had five people and we dealt with it. Once I finished showering I would dry my hair in my bedroom so my brother could get ready. It wasn't a big deal. Then when my brothers and I were done with school it didn't matter because our schedules were all different.

Re: One bathroom Houses

My husband and I have had only one bathroom for 7 years, and it really hasn't been a problem for us (first in a rental apartment, and now in our condo). We are starting a family now, and when we move to our house in the suburbs in a couple of years there is no way I'll buy with only one bathroom. I know it could work, but I'm just not patient enough to wait my turn with 3 or 4 other people involved! Is this just a starter home, or something you are planning to stay in for 20 years?

When we grew up we were 5 people and we had one bathroom. It was a little bit of a pain but you get used to making sure no one has to got the bathroom before you take a shower, etc.

We're in contract for our first home, and it only has one bathroom! But, we thought about it this way: It's just right for us, in a nice neighborhood, and nice sized property (1/2 acre)...so, it was worth it because we can always add a full bath in the master bedroom, as well as one in the basement.

I grew up w/2 full bathrooms. The girls had a bathroom and the boys had another. (which of course was always nasty because, they're men)
anyway...nothing we can afford has had more than 1 bathroom. I would ideally (to start out) like 1.5 baths....but, that's life.

My FH and I don't have conflicting schedules, so it'll be fine.
