One of my students passed away

I have such a heavy heart now. He was such a great kid who I really took a shine to. I work with very physically impaired children and this little boy (10 years old) came to my school this year because he had a progressive disease. He had adrenoleukodystrophy (aka the disease from Lorenzo's Oil). He had been deteriorating so quickly. Near the end of the school year I had a feeling that he would pass over the summer and was giving the classroom and family so much support for his feeding and swallowing. I just got the call that he passed away and his wake is this week. Even when you know it's coming, death is so difficult, just like when my father passed away right before my wedding eariler this year. This family must be so beside themselves now. Thanks for listening.

I am so sorry to hear this. I have lost several students before and there is nothing worse.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! I'm a teacher as well and this is one of my biggest fears - the passing of a student.

sasha it's funny.... people never realize how hard a teacher takes things like this. people never realize that a teacher is like that childs daytime 'parent' .... that is one of the reasons why i could never become one. i give my mom credit for this reason.... (((((( hugs )))))) to you honey... be strong - he's now in a place where there is no pain & he is a happy young boy again with no worries....
