have any of you girls been to a wedding where you were told that it was top shelf, but it wasn't?
I was at a wedding tonight where every time i asked for a drink, i was told that they didn't have the liquor to make that drink. i asked for a margarita - i was told there was no tequila, i asked for a malibu and pineapple - they told me they had no coconut rum, i asked for a sex on the beach - they told me they ran out of peach schnapps.
this wedding was on long island, has anyone else encountered this situation? i'm asking this because now i'm a little concerned that this may happen at my reception.

Re: open bar
This thread makes me so happy that my RH includes all 'premium' liquors in their package. You have no other options but having all of them.

Re: open bar
This happens alot in CT....I live up here and every wedding I've been too doesn't have top shelf liquor....they have liquor packages, so depending on what you choose is what is included.
But never on LI....

Re: open bar
WOW WOW WOW!!! I went to a wedding that only had wine once. And that wasn't the most fun for me! I prefer to DRINK!!!
In any case... if it's OPEN BAR then they should of had some variation of those liquors. I can't believe they didn't have all of those drinks! Did you mention it to the bride or groom or their family members? They should def complain to the place if they paid for open bar and they had nothing there. Those are pretty basic drinks!! even if they aren't using Gray Goose for the vodka... they shold def have coconut rum!! I mean malibu is in A LOT of drinks!!! I can't imagine them RUNNING out of all those things... all i can think of is that it wasn't included in the package they bought. But would that be the standard answer if someone asks for a drink that the bride and groom didn't pay for?? The RH would just say 'we ran out?'. Then again... what else could they say? It's not like they can say 'the Bride and Groom didn't pay for that package'. Strange!
I would ask for a list of what they consider to be a part of the OPEN BAR so this doesn't happen at your wedding!
I am curious as to what venue this happened at though!!

In all honesty... After hearing where this took place by fm... I HIGHLY doubt it wasn't part of the bar package...Sounds more of just a case of a lazy bartender!!!

Re: open bar
most RH's package includes 'premium liquor'. So you may think you are getting top shelf, when it's premium. be careful, cause alot of bars/ RH's use these terms interchangeably. Premium is still good, and should not be confused with 'well drinks'. If a RH was serving well drinks, I would be p issed. That is the c rappiest of all liquors.
For instance:
Top shelf Vodka would be Goose, Kettle one or Belvedere. Premium vodka would be: Skyy or Absolut Well Vodka: thats the stuff you drank in college for $10 a gallon. it is the cheaper version of liquors. So if you ordered a' vodka tonic', they would give you the cheapest vodka they had. Thats why you need to specify 'Kettle and tonic', just to be sure. well drinks are the c rap they are serving us at 1/2 price happy hours!!
just double check with your RH, and ask to see their liquor list and what they consider top shelf vs. premium. you may be surprised.

Most of the halls I looked at (and the many that I worked at) had it the opposite as to what you just said:
Premium = Grey Goose, Patron, Johnny blk etc. Top shelf = absolute, Jose Cuervo, Bacardi Well = All the cheapo stuff.
Just goes to show how losely the terms are thrown around, so I agree be sure to ask for a full list!!

Re: open bar
no, we never mentioned it to the bride or groom. maybe i will leave that up to my brother because he was the best man.
i also asked for the drinks at 3 separate bars just thinking that maybe the first bar was only the cocktail hour bar so they didn't have it. once i got into the main ballroom, i asked at both bars.
