Open Houses

What is the best resource for finding a listing of open houses? Is the best bet to just drive around the neighborhood, or is there a website that has listings (other than NYTimes)?

Re: Open Houses

Most open houses will have at least 3 signs leading you to them.

Generally, a real estate company will always place an ad in the paper the day that they are having them. That is your best bet to find them. Also check real estate websites...they are good with updating their open houses for the week.

Re: Open Houses

We looked in Newsday for open houses, some are by owner, so may not signs. Also check the web sites of the real estate companies, they list them on there too.

Re: Open Houses

We found our house through an open house we saw advertised in Sunday's Newsday. Once we got to the area, we drove around a bit and saw signs leading to two others. We ended up seeing 3 that day all in the same neighborhood, so it gave us a really good feel for what type of house we could get for the money we wanted to spend.

Re: Open Houses

We did exactly what chmlengr did. We would look in the Newsday and NYTimes the night before and look for open house ad's in the neighborhood. Once in the area - we would just keep driving around randomly and following open hoise signs and balloons! (If you don't know the neighborhood well - we would also print our some maps from ampquest before we left - to help us out. Sometimes when we are at one open house we would overhear about another on a nearby street or even the realots would esnd us to another - esp if the house we visited did not meet our criteria).

Re: Open Houses

i did just what niecey did... printed out directions and all! i found there were equal open houses on both days... but if i had to say one, then i would say saturday since most people like to have sunday to relax and wind down.. as opposed to having a house full of people all day.

Re: Open Houses

hmmm..not sure which day has more. We mostly went on Sundays because it was just easier for us and never found us lacking for open houses.

Re: Open Houses

There are more open houses on Sundays as opposed to Saturdays.. you can look in the newspaper, but your best bet is to just drive around and pop your head into open houses..

Re: Open Houses

We just spent weekends driving on the main roads in the neighborhoods that we were interested in. We found plenty of houses to look at each of the days that we did this!
