For a wedding favor I was thinking about getting wine glasses with our name and wedding dated etched on the glass. Then making a gel candle inside. Many friends said people will just put it in a garage sale.
What do you think.

It's one thing to give wine glasses, another to have the date etched into them for everyone. And another to make them gel candles!
I would say maybe tie a ribbon with your names and dates on it around the wine glasses, that way they can use them again without anything on the glasses. JMO.
I'm just a big fan of having things without having our dates on them all over the place.

ditto! i would honestly throw it away once i get home. it's too restricting for the recipient if there's something on it forever.

Re: Opinion...
I wouldnt use it again. It just doesnt go with my decor. Id use a wine glass again, but etched in someone elses name - not sure and definately not with a candle in it.
Maybe you could engrave their names in it and their table # like a placecard.

Do the wine glasses empty inside that way people can use them again.

Re: Opinion...
I have to go with the majority here. I wouldn't use/display something that had someone elses names etched on it. I would stick with a removable ribbon to personalize them.

Re: Opinion...
I must agree with your friends. you're better off giving them a glass with some candy in it, so at least they can use it when they're done. and don't put the name and date on it.

Re: Opinion...
i would throw it out honestly for the same reasons stated above.
i don't even know that i'd keep a wine glass--what am i going to do with ONE wine glass that doesn't match my set?

Re: Opinion...
Are you planning on give each person 1 wine glass?
No offense but what would you do with 1 glass? It won't match anything else the person owns.
I certainly don't think you should engrave it -- but that is JMO.
Is there a reason you want to give a wine glass? Are you having a wine themed wedding? You could give wine or grape juice instead.
I think a candle (just a candle) would be fine as well.

Thanks for all the advice. I think it is safe to say I will not be doing this idea. LOL. Only problem is I dont know what else to do. I dont want to give the normal stuff like frames and candles. Here is a pic of what I was going to do.

Re: Opinion...
What about this favor is interesting to you?
Is it the red color?
Does it fit your theme in some way?
Red would be pretty easy, I found a red votive without any problems.
There are plenty of options as favors:
Cookies and Cupcakes could easily be customized.
You could also do:
Honey Carmel apples Chocolate or other candy Playing cards (this was a huge hit a my friends Vegas Themed Wedding, she also have out chocolate poker chips). CD

I know this may be off topic but how about a donation favor? Several guest told us that was one of the favorite things about our wedding. We donated to Catholic Big Brothers/Big Sisters since my DH was a Big brother and my sis is a big sister. She asked if could donate to the Brookly/Queens chapter since they are desperate for the money.
Thanks to our donation they emailed us and told us they are now able to hire a MSW intern for the fall. It made us feel so good to do something with the money than the usual favor.
