I have an appt to book my RH this Sunday(finally).
Originally I was having a Sat night, but now it is going to be a Friday in May 08'.
They have May 9th or 23rd. Both fall on a holiday weekend. I am trying to figure out what would be better, Mothers Day weekend or Memorial day weekend? Any opinions? Thanks

Re: Opinion on dates...
Its tough...Memorial Day weekend, on long island, is usually a weekend packed with stuff to do, since it is the kick-off of the beach season. Mother's Day weekend is just Sunday. I would go with Mother's Day weekend.....JMO

Hmmm, tough choice.
Many people like to go away for Memorial Day, but if you send out STDs then they may not plan a trip for next year so that they can go to your wedding.
Mother's Day is the Sunday so your guests should be ok going to your wedding Friday and still having time for mom over the weekend.
I really think either way is ok but I would prob pick May 9.

I have a holiday wedding so for me either would work. I really like the idea of a holiday weekend that people can celebrate with you for. They can travel and don't have to worry about getting home for mom on Sunday and they can stay in town, go to the beach, etc until Monday. Its just a nice excuse for family to get together for a long weekend.

I would go for Mother'd day weekend. Memoerial Day weekend on LI will be hard for your out of town guests. Airfare and hotels will be expensive and traffic will be bad.

I would pick May 9th. It still gives people a chance to get together with their loved ones on Sunday for Mothers' Day. Memorial Day Weekend is a big travel weekend.

Re: Opinion on dates...
I am getting married on May 24th 2009. It is a sunday and the day before Memorial Day weekend. And a night time wedding at that.
Fh and I agreed on this mostly because I graduate from grad school May 17 2009 and I wanted to go on my honeymoon right away so Mother's Day did not work our for us.
Also, I liked the idea that no one had work the next day and we also found it the same price as a Friday night. AND Friday night we didnt want to worry people about getting out of work early or not being able to come to the Church which we are most likely having at 4:30 or 5.
I know traffic is not too bad during Memorial Day weekend. It is just the trains...and most people who go out to the Hamptons are on the train fri or sat morning and ocming back mon or sun night. None of our OOT guests would be traveling on a train either and those who are coming from upstate would fly...and JetBlue has wonderful cheap flights..
GO with your gut though....
Good Luck!!

i agree...my family told me they like the idea cause they will go out to the hamptons on fri- sat and be there for the wedding on sun and leave mon from the hotel we choose.

I agree with the other ladies... Mother's Day is really just Sunday, but Memorial Day usally ends up being the whole weekend or people go away

Well, if you feel like fighting traffic all weekend, go for Memorial Day. If you want something a little more laid back, I'd go with Mother's Day.

I would go with the mothers day weekend. Alot of people go away every memorial day weekend.
I once had a party memorial day weekend and alot of people were not happy that they could not do their memorial day 'traditions'.

Re: Opinion on dates...
def do mothers day weekend. my bday falls on memorial weekend almost every year. when i was a kid soo many people couldnt make it to my bday party cause they were going away for memorial weekend. it made me so sad go for mday and do a special toast in their honor - but be ware that flowers may be more expensive that weekend so book your florist EARLY

Re: Opinion on dates...
I'd say mother's day weekend. I personally don't like having to attend weddings on holiday weekends because I like to schedule my time then to do what I want and would rather do a wedding on a regular weekend, which mother's day weekend is to me anyway as it's a normal 2-day weekend. But, do what you need to and whatever works best and people will just have to make plans around it if they want to come! =)
Where are you picking for your RH?

i would pick mother's day weekend....alot of people have plans for memorial day weekend and may not be able to attend your wedding..but maybe if you send a STD to let them know when your wedding is...they will keep your date in mind
