Opinionated Friends and Family?

Regarding my earlier post about Kleinfelds-

My friends in NY love mermaid style and are souped for me to get it. My bridesmaids (not from NY) all HATE it with a passion. Fo much so that they begged me not to get one

I didn't think it'd bother me so much but it's f'ing with my head. I personally really like mermaid or fitted dresses but I want everyone in my bridal party to like my dress!

I haven't tried on a mermaid yet so maybe I'll hate it on me...

Anyone dealing with highly opinionated people regarding dresses?

Did you just ignore them and get what you wanted??

I had that a few weeks ago when I went to try on dresses. My grandmother is very opinionated and there was only 1 dress she liked out of the 20 I tried on that day. My mother kept reminding me that it was my day and I need to be happy, regardless of what others say. I have to remember that during this process.

Remember its about you and FH. Take the advice of your BP with a grain of salt. You want them to be happy, but yu come first! Good luck!!

I think everyone is going to have an opinion and if someone is rude enough to tell you they hate your dress then they are really not a friend.. I'm sure not everyone is going to love my dress but i do and thats the whole great thing about it!!!

I am dealing with that right now!! I am having a hard time with making a decision on which dress I like best so I sent an email to my dad and family (who live in florida) then I sent it to my FH family. BIG mistake!!Now I am dealing with highly opinionated people regarding dresses and they ALL have different opinions. I think I am going to ignore everyone now and just go with my gut feeling. If they don't like what I pick I just have to remember that it is my day and they all had their day already.

ugh, doesn't it suck??? I have to remind myself that I don't dress like everyone else in my everday so why would I let someone pick out my wedding dress. But it's hard not to be disapointed that some people hate my choices!

This is why I cannot stress enough the importance of choosing the right people to go dress shopping with you and a limited number at that!

Everyone is going to have their opinion - you can't help that. But, you don't need to have 10 people's opinions thrown at you at once because then you will lose sight of what you really want. I know you said you haven't even tried the style on yet, but what if when you finally do and you absolutely LOVE a mermaid style dress and it's exactly what you envisioned yourself in... are you not going to get it because of what other people think would look better on you?

I made it a point to not go dress shopping with more than 2 people at a time and 1 of them was always my mother, who's opinion was the only one I really cared about since she was buying the dress. Of course you want everyone to love your dress as much as you do, but you shouldn't let a few people who don't agree with your choice stand in your way of having the dress you want. Let them have it their way at their weddings when the time comes - it's your turn now

I only went with my mom yesterday and she thought everything looked nice . But I completely agree, makes me not want to take them with me!! But believe me, If I fall in love, I will get the dress I want...but it would be the icing on the cake if everyone loved it too

It really does suck!! And what is really hard for me is that my FH makes all the decisions becuase I always second guess myself. And I was 99% set on a dress until my dad said I looked like a mummy and now I dont know what to do. My pics are in my album if you want to see them. Good Luck!!!

omg, i tried on a very similar dress to the first on in your album yesterday. The same except corset back. I loved the top but thought the rest was too simple. I love how timeless it is though and you look beautiful in it!

Out of the three, I like number 3 the best followed by Number 2. ahhh it's so hard!

When I went to try on dresses @ Kleinfeld, I had a lot of pictures of what I wanted, mostly natural waist dresses, but I wanted to try on a dropped waist because I had a feeling it might look good. I really loved a Lazaro dress and was super happy when I put it on, but wasn't 100% sold, then Keasha pulled me a Kenneth Pool that kind of mashed all my ideas into one, inc the drop waist. I saw it on the hanger and was like 'hmmmm, I'll try it' then put it on and it looked really good. I went out to show my MOH and FMIL and was looking in the mirror. My FMIL just bust out with 'I know I shouldn't say anything but you HAVE to buy this dress, this is the one!' I just looked at Keasha while my FMIL was all giddy and stupid. It REALLY pi**ed me off. No sh*t you shouldn't have said anything, or at least not something so definitive! I was trying to get my head around this one, and the Lazaro one I liked, and now I had to throw in what my FMIL had said. The reason it was such a problem, was that I wanted to decide without her influence, and be OK with saying yes to the dress on my own. When she said it I was so irritated! And we have issues anyway so it almost made me not want to get it in spite!

Anyway then I showed it to my mum on the webcam, and as I walked around the store everyone, inc other families, Randy and other consultants, told me how amazing it looked (and they'd seen the other one) so I said YTTD!

I'm probably just hypersensitive but it pi**ed me off never-the-less.

I think you should go for what YOU want.... Everyone has different opinions and ideas about clothes... whatever U LOVE, maybe I WOULD HATE.....
Maybe You LOVE JEANS... but I HATE JEANS....
It doesnt mean antyhing.,,,,

SO GO FOR WHAT YOU WANT!

Ooooh I like number 3! I didn't see that one the other day when we were voting!

When I went dress shopping, the consultant brought out 2 dresses and my sister (MOH) and best friend both looked at and hated , while I was in the dressing room, they told the consultant not to let me try them on thats how much they hated it...

When I tried them on they loved it! And one of them wound up being my dress.

Once they see you in it they will be floored!

I'm hoping this happens. That they'll see me in it and go 'That is SO anney.' They might not wear it but we do have completely diff taste!

I understand that yu want everyone to love your dress but really all that matters is what YOU LOVE!!! If you fall in love with a dress don't not get it because someone else in your BP doesnt like it. They arent wearing it Its your choice, your dress and oyour wedding! Just remember ever girl has their own style so you stick with what you want and you will look gorgeous in whatever dress you pick!!!!
