I would really appreciate your opinions. The more we research stuff the more we realize how expensive our 200-250 person summer wedding will be. I'm having a really hard time dropping 40K+ on one day and have been looking for ways to cut costs. I can't limit my guest list per se so I'm looking at other options. So my questions are:
Have you/would you attend a weekday wedding (Monday-Thursday? If so, was it an inconvenience?
Did you have/or are planning to have a weekday wedding? Deciding factors? Was the savings that much of a difference?
Appreciate your opinions..thanks!
Edited to add: I can't change the time frame as my parents are oversees and can only come to the US once a year for a month at a time due to passport/visa restrictions. I'm graduating from graduate school next May and would need to have the wedding within a month of it if I wanted my parents to attend both.

Honestly if it was me, I would change the season and/or do it on a friday night or a day times on sat/sun. I would rather my wedding not be in the summer then to have it on a mon-thrus. Just my personal opinion. Plus I feel like if I had to go to a weekday wedding, I probably wouldn't make the ceremony because of work and couldn't stay as late because of work the next morning.

How about a weekday in the summer before a holiday like 4th of July?
I do agree, that maybe you should look at a different time of year and definitely try to negotiate!

Hello, Personally I won't be excited to attend a wedding on a weekday. But I would attend. Maybe if you work arould a holiday. Like Memorial Weekend or 4th of July that would help. I was a little tight attending a Friday evening in another state. When picking my day my mom insisted on a Saturday. So I'm having a day wedding. You can play around with the months too. And negotiate. My friend told a place if I can guarantee a certain amount can you give me this price.

How about a Friday night wedding or Sunday afternoon wedding? Because of the season the prices are definitely higher than average. You can also do a cocktail party and have several different stations instead of a full sit down dinner if that's something that will work for you and your fiance.

Based on what you said, moving the time of year is not an option. I would avoid doing it on a real weekday because it's inconvenient, but a Friday or Sunday or holiday would be less money most likely.
Other ways to cut costs are: Make your own invitations Don't use limos Create your own arrangements with wholesale flowers In lieu of purchased favors, make something edible yourself Don't hire a band (DJs are typically less expensive) Dont get a videographer, or ask a family member or friend to videotape everything (it won't be a nice professional edit but it's worth it to have SOME video) Don't make or buy menus (they're really not necessary) Use as much of what your venue and vendors offer as you can
Skimp on the extras.. trust me, they all add up to a lot.

a Thursday night wouldn't be bad me and my friends have gone out tons of times on Thursday nights really late.
I mean over the summer they had body english on Tuesday nights and tons of people went. of course that's a club with mostly young people so older family might not feel the same. I'd stick with a Thursday.
or like a few other girls said what about before a holiday? though airfare will be $$$ for your family.

Hi!
I've been to a Monday wedding in July for my friend's wedding at the Westbury Manor and it was great! What she did was, she had it during a holiday weekend, and the 4th of July happened to fall on a Sunday and most people had that Monday off. So she's even suggesting for my 2014 wedding, that sometimes when you schedule around a holiday or Sunday, you can get a discount price.
Honestly, if you send out save-the-dates, early and your family and friends put in the request for that weekday off in a timely fashion, it can work! ;)

I once went to a Tuesday wedding. The next day I think was election day, so I was not off from work along with the majority of other people attending. It really was one of my least favorite weddings. A lot of people were just not into it. Like everyone else has suggested, maybe try for a different season and a Friday night wedding. Good luck!

i Am getting married on a sunday evening. It is the day before labor day so almost everyone has off the next day. We got a great price..maybe try the sunday before memorial day or the day before 4th of July when everyone has off the next day. Good luck!

We'll likely do Friday or Sunday evening...maybe even Saturday afternoon depending how much of a price difference it is. We have appts to see a bunch of places on the 18th and will go from there. Crossing my fingers that my fiance's sales skills can help us get a cheaper price, lol

Do what works best for you. The guests who matter the most will be there no matter what day of the week it is! Do what is best for you financially and everyone will work their schedules out to be there.
