I was thinking of flying Jetblue, but I was wondering what you thought of Southwest? It's a little annoying that the latest they'll let you book right now is October. I wanted to book my flight upon hearing that fuel prices are driving flight costs up, but Southwest isn't letting me. Jet Blue doesn't have the BEST options for me right now...

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
One thing to be made aware of about SW. They don't give you seating assignments. You have to be one of the first people at the ticket counter for your flight to have a choice of where you can sit.

southwest only lets you book 3 months beforehand...anytime..they never go further than 3 months...but I love flying southwest. They are the cheapest, friendly, funny people, and you get to sit in any seat you want.
I reccommend them. But if you can't wait (which I wouldn't rely on waiting for your honeymoon) then book another airline.

so... what are the odds that I will be able to sit with my new husband on our honeymoon? That's such a STUPID policy!! Is it just that we might not get an aisle seat or window seat... or that we might be separated?

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
on southwest, you can check in the earliest at 12 am the day of your flight. You get an A B or C on your ticket...if you get there early enough you will get an A or B...then you both go on the plane together. I have never had trouble not sitting next to someone I wanted to on the plane.
they have 3 different lines at the gate, a b or c...and you stand on line with your husband....then when they call A, they let the A line in...basically first come first serve for seating, so if you want to sit in the front, you better get there early.
I've found that most people start filling up the front first on southwest flights.
I've been first on line a couple of times!!!

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
I love Soutwest but there is no seat assignment.
So the earlier you come you will be assigned A (first seated), B or C. I usually 'camp' and seat on my carry on in the lane I am assigned when getting my boarding pass.

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
I have flown both and liked them both.
I LOVE flying out of MacArthur!! it is SO much more convenient than JFK or LAG. for that reason alone, I would rather fly SW!

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
They both are good airlines but, I prefer JetBlue as well. I don't like this whole 3 - month in advance booking thing through Southwest! I also like to have my seat assigned and direct TV!
ETA: I do love Islip/Macarthur Airport though, it's so small and convenient! If you live really close to their, Southwest is a better choice.

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
I know I posted previously, but wanted to add:
I personally like to fly Jet Blue - although their prices are going up, they're cheaper than the other airlines and they RARELY are ever late! I think in the last 3-4 years I've flown with them, I've been late once arriving at my destination. Not bad, huh, and they have more options for flying in & out. I hated flying delta/AA and getting at the airport at an obscene hour (AM or PM) to fly out. I like the mid-day - don't have to deal with rush hour!

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
I flew Southwest last week and I learned that they will be phasing out the seating policy and will soon have assigned seating. I don't know when, though!
Our flight was delayed but it was b/c all flights from the airport were delayed. We could not even walk around the airport b/c we would have lost our place on line!

That's actually not true any more. You can now check in up to 24 hours in advance of your flight. As long as you have an A or a B you should have no problem getting seats together. I fly SW all the time and I love them. I hear that they're planning on assigning seats in the future. They're doing test runs out of several airports right now.

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
you can check in online so you can get in the A class group... so the seating really isnt much of an issue... even if you get on at the way end of the A's you can still pick your seat pretty much anywhere...

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
Well I usually swear by Southwest b/c of the convience of ISP airport (no crowds) and the price is great -just booked trip to Vegas today) BUT if you are flying in/out of Orlando let me warn you..... Last time I did it was a nightmare. We were booked on the 1st NS flight of the day and we printed our boarding passes 24 hrs b4 & got the A section but when we got there (2 hrs early) there was a 3 hour baggage line. They did not care if you missed your flight they just put you on another available flight later that day but most likely it will have stops..so took all day to get home. Grrrr...I think for my HM I would go Jet blue as you def get the seat you want. where wld u print out your boarding pass for SW if you are in a hotel?

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
I prefer Jet Blue better, but they are more expensive lately. We recently went to Disney and the flights through Southwest were $80 cheaper round trip.
I just don't like the fact that they do not assign seats on Southwest. You have to get there early (or check in online the night before) to get a pick of what seats you want.

Re: Opinions on Southwest airlines?
I love Southwest. I've never had a problem with them even with the seating. You don't have to be the first one there to get a good seat. I've gotten there within my one hour time and still had 'a' as my choice of seats.
