opinions, please - rough sketch of ceremony - how does it sound?
we're meeting with rabbi feller tomorrow and fh is not being much help in outlining our ceremony - he wants a nachos and beer break in the middle, and wants to start off the ceremony with 'so a priest and a rabbi walk into a bar...'
anyway, there is going to be a priest and rabbi, and this is how i envision it:
1. processional
2. opening remarks by priest and rabbi, with communal blessing of the rings (pass them around for guests to hold them while saying a silent prayer/blessing).
3. readings: 1 jewish, 1 catholic, 7 jewish blessings (each blessing read by a different guest - i'm really going for interactive here)
4.vows 5.rings
6. catholic sign of peace (everyone shakes hands/kisses and wishes each other peace)
7. closing remarks, pronouncement of husband and wife, breaking of glass
altogether i am thinking it will last about 30-35 minutes.
any opinions? as always, thanks in advance!

I think it sounds fine. I've never been to an interfaith marriage though so I can't be a good judge but from what I read it sound nice. I never heard of passing the rings around - what a nice idea.
I have to say thought the 'priest and rabbi walk into the bar' part is kinda funny.
Are you meeting w/ both the priest and rabbi? They may have ideas on how the ceremony should go too. Unless what you set forth is what they said it 'the norm' or somewhat the norm. Defintely see if both priest and rabbi are cool on the outline of the ceremony so there are no 'surprises'.

thanks for your input!
we'll be meeting with both the rabbi and the priest. we've already got the priest (a friend of my family) but haven't met with him yet. i'm sure both officiants will have ideas about how the ceremony should go, and we are definitely open to suggestions. i just wanted to walk in with something in mind so that when the rabbi asks what we want, fh doesn't say 'nachos, a few priest/rabbi jokes, and 'you may now kiss the bride' '

If you have co-officiants...does one sort of lead the other? How does that work?

deb -good question. i'm not entirely sure, but ideally i would like them to truly 'co-officiate' so that neither really leads. both sides of the family have the potential for getting testy if one religion seems to dominate the ceremony, hence my attempt to incorporate both traditions into it. i'm hoping that the rabbi tomorrow can give us more of an idea of how it all works...
