I saw it also. Did anyone get the feeling she didn't totally write that book? Oprah was telling her what she wrote. She eventually covered it with a good laugh, but I thought she was getting a bit annoyed that Frye couldn't recall important details.
Mary, you took the words right out of my mouth. I thought the same exact thing.
Me too. She kept forgetting stuff and stalled after alot of the questions. Oprah answered more questions than her.
I thought the same exact thing - Oprah was like 'Alright, I'll tell your story!' I don't think Amber even read her own book.

Well I was getting annoyed too. Every question that Oprah asked her, she hesitated and just stared in space until Oprah picked up the story for her. I mean she couldnt honestly answer the question of about what time period was she starting to fall for him....How do you not know???
Say a few months? Few Weeks? Say something!!!!!!! Really was annoying the crap out of me!

Exactly!!! Wasn't it also the questions about her phone conversations with her girlfriend? I may be wrong here, but I think she couldn't tell Oprah what they talked about and Oprah had to remind her. Seems like those parts may have been 'enhanced or invented a bit' by an author and she didn't know the details. These interviews certainly don't make anyone want to run out and buy the book. Not me, anyhow. But I will watch on Friday - maybe with a friend so we can laugh over it.

Re: oprah
You have to realize that this woman was able to trap Scott into believing she was not taping him and have him admit to saying things to her before the tapes started (ie. that he told her he lost his wife).
I'm not saying she is not spacy, but I think it can be very overwhelming to walk out into a studio of 200 people with the biggest star in the entertainment world talking to you and telling you that you should not of let him pick up your daughter from school.
And I was kind of mad about Oprah laying into her about the one night stand and drinking. I know a lot of woman who drink on first dates (me and DH did) and who go home with people the first night that they wind up dating for a long time. She should not have to defend herself in those two areas.
It comes down to the fact that she stood up to this sociopath and trapped him in his own lies. I give her a lot of credit for getting justice for Laci and Conner.

she slept with him the first night what does that tell you. i would have been curious to see where he lives thats a little strange that she never really asked. or asked how his wife died. those were questions i would want to know.

I don't think that tells you anything. I know people who are very 'prudish' people and have had one night stands in their past. I don't think a one night stand means someone is a slut or you should think differently of that person.
And you have to remember they were dating one month before Laci disappeared and he claimed he traveled a lot. I don't think i would need to see where he lived right away...and i would wait to find out the details of how he lost his wife especially if he was so upset about it when telling me.

By no means am I downplaying her role in getting Scott a death sentence. She could have chickened out and stayed close mouthed. However, I'm reluctant to give her too much credit on getting him to confess about losing his wife. He was TRAPPED. Someone realized she was dating a married man. He was confronted! He then lied to Amber by saying his wife died -before she even disappeared. There is no cause here to give her credit for that.
I think Oprah took the stand she did to drill into women how risky her actions were. We can't forget Oprah is talking to millions of people when she talks to a guest. Of course many people drink on the first date - probably most! Going home with him on the first night is another thing. Many girls who that do, and it works out for them, are fortunate. I'm sure we all can guess that there are many that do though, and aren't as lucky. Oprah was sexually abused as a young girl by a family member. She could do nothing to prevent that. She must be appalled by intelligent, adult women who willingly put themselves - and their children - in vulnerable situations. She knows first hand the dear price one pays when something like that happens. How could Amber know that he wouldn't abuse her little girl when picking her up from school? I didn't get the feeling she was judging her on those two issues you mention. But when Scott was asked to pick the daughter up from school only after two dates, Oprah couldn't believe anyone would take such a risk.
Yes, Amber was under a lot of pressure with the TV cameras on her, but there were times when she was quite verbal and had no problem expressing herself. The times she did were quite noticeable.
I'm really enjoying all of your opinions. Please don't take any of my comments personally. I am from a different generation - and am still quite naive. My daughter often reminds me of that! I'm glad to read what you all have to say.

I didn't see it, but just wanted to suggest that Amber is not an actress (or someone who would be used to being in front of cameras in interviews and stuff.) Maybe that attributed to what was perceived as 'spaciness'...I know it's hard to be in front of cameras if you're not the kind of person who likes that sort of attention. Maybe she was just overwhelmed. I always wonder how I would be if on a televised interview. I know I wouldn't be nearly as relaxed and my words wouldn't flow nearly as easily as they do from celebrities.

Re: oprah
she came off as a little spacey but she HAD to be nervous to be on Oprah. It was admirable of her - what she did for Laci's family. Don't think she is the smartest tool in the tool box but I had always had a bad impression of her and this episode made me see her as a human being.

I'll probably get nailed for this but sometimes Oprah gets me fired up. Last time was when she had the Apprentice people on and she kept egging on Omarosa about the whole Ereka/Omarosa thing (Omarosa accusing Ereka of using a extremely deragatory slur on her) and she wouldn't let Ereka defend herself. It came out that they had no evidence of Ereka ever saying anything like that and Omarosa just used it to make herself look better. I lost a lot of respect for Oprah when that happened. She should have let ereka speak.

Re: oprah
My mom and I watched yesterday's show together and we felt like Oprah was not giving Amber a chance to talk. She would ask Amber a question and as soon as she started to answer, Oprah cut her off. I have noticed that Oprah is VERY judgemental lately. There are two things I really don't think she should be so judgemental about : marriage and having children. She has neither, yet makes extremely strong statements about both. I love her and the things that she does, but she seems more negative lately than I ever remember her being.
