Ordered my dress yesterday! + question...

I'm so excited! My mom and i went shopping for my dress yesterday...first time out, and first time ever to try on a wedding gown, and I found THE ONE after trying on a few! Its absolutely perfect, and I'm thrilled.

I do have a question...what are your thoughts about sharing details about your dress with people? The women at Bridal Reflections (where we ordered the dress), strongly suggested I not tell anyone about the dress, and my mom agreed. But I don't know if i can be 'that girl'...you know the one...'i want it to be a surprise...' I'm usually the one rolling my eyes at something like this, but now I'm in the situation!!! I caved already and told a couple of close friends about it. But they don't know the designer's name and I couldn't find a photo of it online if I tried, so I think its fine. What do you guys think?

LOL- having the same problem.
I thin FMIL thinks I'm tryign to exclude her, but my excues is that FHis always around when i see her.
I showed a few peopl the pic, but not the back which is my favorite part ( you can see- its in my profile)

I knwo my family is going to ask at easter & I don't know what to do.
my mom has a pick, but i don't really want to show it- I'd rather just give teh basics or say nothing at all.

I am tryign not to tell anyone about my veil-its Cathedral & i thinkit will look dramatic if no one ( Excpet mom ) is expecting it.

I told my BM's, and my parents saw it...and FI's mom...and my friends at work...AND the girls on this board...lolol.

I would love to keep it all a surprise except from you girls but I cant keep a secret to save my life! (well about this kind of stuff... you know what I mean)

At first I didn't want to share with anyone. But then I thought about it. I was so excited and wanted to so badly show everyone a pic of it. So I said 'why not, by the time the wedding comes...these people are not going to remember all the details.' So I went ahead and shared it with family, close friends, and so co-workers. Showing them once, they are not going to remember by the time the wedding rolls around. So go ahead, share! Just not with FI that is... he should be the one who gets 'Surprised!' Congrats on finding the dress

Congrats on ordering your dress! If my mom had her way, I wouldn't tell/show anyone my dress. However, whenever one of my friends asked me what it looked like, I would show them a picture, and I tried it on for my BMs. The truth is that even if people have seen the dress, it wont take away from how beautiful they think the bride looks on her wedding day. There's just so much you can tell from a description or a picture.

Me too!

I can't keep a secret...I want to show my FH but I wont!! That should be a secret!

same here!! my mom didnt want me to tell alot of people so I showed my fil's and my sister and bms... you girls.. and a few other people... MOST people at the church wont no and FH definitly wont... HONESTLY... even if they see a pic.. every dress looks different on every girl... I obviously dont look like the model in my dress pictures!

I showed my mom, my sister (MOH), my grandmother, my great grandmother, my FMIL, my two FSILs (BMs), my two cousins (BMs) and my best friend (BM) in person!!!!! I showed a lot of other people the picture in the magazine. I am not worried about them not being suprised... because they will be when they see the whole package (hair makeup veil tiara flowers...)

I also think this is a tough call. The lady at my shop and my mom & gran said no one should see it till the wedding day, and that it's 'BAD LUCK' to talk about it. But I couldnt resist describing it to my MOH, BM's, a few co-workers and my FMIL. I just couldnt resist.
But, describing it may be as far as I allow myself to go. I dont have a pic of my dress, and I may keep it that way. Not sure yet. thanks for starting this poll!

I always thought that when I found 'the' dress, I would want to keep it a surprise except for a select few, but once I did find it I was so happy that I wanted to show everyone! I bargained shopped and got a great deal on the dress, so if someone asks I don't mind telling how much I paid.

Oh please ! i've told EVERYONE !!! haha many people like to keep it a secret - but that is just not my personality - so who cares ? it's not like they've seen me in it !! -
it would have been more of an effort for me to keep quiet - !!!
if it doesn't concern you - tell whoever you want ! - If you'd rather not let people know - that's fine too

i have shown people thepicture but the picture does no justice to the dress compared to what it looks like on.... i won't let anyone see me with it on
my FMIL and FSIL came with my mom and I when i went to look

i went to bridal reflections too but they cant expect you to keep it a secret for 1 year sorry not me!! people wont see me in it until my wedding

Dale is the only one who hasn't seen it. LOL. I actually have not shown it on the boards. For some reason I want it to be a surprise when I post my review to you ladies.

I'm in the keep it as a surprise group. I did show it to my BMs though, figuring they will see it before we get to the church anyway, but kept it a secret from everyone else.....and people (meaning Fi's family) have asked but I've told them they will have to wait. His mom can be pretty judgmental and I didn't want to spoil my excitement over the dress by having to defend why I chose it.

Thanks everyone for all your feedback. I have to admit, I haven't been very good at keeping it a secret so far! I've told my MOH, couple of BM's, and couple of other friends. Not sure if I want to bring my FMIL to see it, since I also have a feeling she's going to be a little weird about it...not as thrilled w/ it as my mom and i are, and i don't want her to ruin my happiness with it! But we'll see. I'm so happy about the dress that it really is just impossible for me to keep it a secret!
