Ordering your Dress - Did you Lie About the Date?

Original post by SoonToBeMrsONeill

So I've asked around and gotten a few mixed responses... But for the most part everyone I spoke with said to tell the dress shop my wedding was at least two weeks before the actual date..

Did anyone else do this? Or at least wish they did?

I told them the right date, and everything has been fine.

I gave them the right date beacause I placed the order for my dress back in Fall of 08, so I had plenty of time (arrived in Jan of 09).

Oh man hahaha i wonder how they would feel if i straight up asked them to do that... i'd rather lie to the designer than lie to the store

LOL...Oddly enough I didn't suggest it, they did. But It's a GREAT idea. You can tell them that a friend of yours suggested it and is it something they would do? Alot of places do it on their own.

I did not lie about my date to the salon where I got my gown. I ordered in late January (I think), and I just got the call this weekend that it's in.

The bridesmaid dresses are another story....ordering those through David's Bridal, and I have lied about the wedding date to them.

Hmm that might be why there's this common trend of not getting the dress until the very last moment... because all these poor designers must think EVERYONE is lying to them

if you feel more comfortable saying that your wedding will be a week or two early, you'll still be fine.

i've heard of a few bridal salons that cut it so close that they don't charge you for the rush alterations, but who needs that much strees about the dress no less! a few weeks before the wedding.

if your wedding is still more than a year away, and you already ordered it, it doesn't make sense to lie about the date because it will be in way before the date anyway and you can choose to make your alterations appointment whenever you want to.

if your wedding is within the next 5-6 months, i must fudge the date a little.

No! Hahaha I never even thought about that! I'm a terrible liar. Plus I believe it will bite me in the butt anyways (alterations) so truth is always best with this!

I told my dress shop the exact date I was getting married and had no problems at all. I picked up my dress on the Thursday before my wedding (got married on Saturday) and to tell you the truth, I was very nervous about it being out of the store and at my mom's house for two nights! I made her check on it every couple of hours to make sure it wasn't wrinkled!

yeah I dont see the harm in saying that it's really a week before your actual day... I really dont mind it sitting at my moms house for a week before... i'd rather have that then a few days before and not know if it's perfect or not

Thank you again for all the feedback ladies!!!
