Organ Donation - pay it forward? =)

Organ Donation - pay it forward? =)

I, for one, feel very strongly about this.

I want the doctors to take EVERYTHING that they can to help others. Somehow, I feel like I can help more people in death than I can in life!!!

My father, on the other hand, will not witness my Mother's organ donor signature. He refuses to donate his, and doesn't approve of it. His argument is, 'When I get to heaven, I want to SEE the glory of it.' (cornea/eye donation)

MY argument is that if it really IS heaven, wouldn't I be able to see anyway? After all, the reason I would have no sight would be because I did a very Christian thing and helped OTHERS!!!

What do you think about the whole thing?

My DH has a bumper sticker

'Don't take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here'

I agree 100% with this. I didnt in the past but more and more I am considering donating my organs. I had a friend who passed from skin cancer and he donated his eyes.

I want to donate everything I can. I won't be here to use it, why not let someone else. Though I did check off that I only wanted it to go to someone who can use it, not for testing and whatnot. Not sure why, except I guess I'd rather int be used to fix someone, then just to figure out how to fix someone later on (if that makes sense).

My father went into kidney failure 3 years ago due to his diabetes, and now he has to spend 3 days a week at Dialysis. I've watched his health and his emotional well-being disintegrate further and further every month, and now, his whole life is dedicated to trying to get on an organ donor list with a wait period that isn't too long (he's old - 70 - and he won't get approved for surgery if it takes too long). I've pleaded with him so many times to look into accepting my kidneys, or my brothers, but he's adamant against because he's fearful of what will happen if either of us develops diabetes. SO, my position on this topic? I will donate every possible organ and shred of skin if it would at all help someone's family the way it will help ours

I'm not the healthiest person so they probably won't want any of my organs but If I were able to help someone I would without even thinking.

absolutely!

it would mean someone else having a chance to live, new heart, lung, kidney, etc......

oh most definitely. If it means that someone might benefit, of course.
I want to be cremated anyways, so it's all good.

I think that Organ Donation is a very honerable thing.
My belief is that your soul goes to heaven, and it doesn't matter if you donated body parts...because that either goes into the ground or gets creamated.

Thanks Shorty... that's why I tell it, because people should realize exactly what they're doing - not only saving a life, but all those people who love that person too...

I plan on donating anything they can take from me. I won't need them after I'm gone. I also want to find out information about becoming a bone marrow donor because I know that can really help someone.

I feel - what do I need them for once I am gone. However if you do feel very strongly about it, you need to tell your family your wishes, because even if you sign the back of your license, it is ultimately your surviving family's decision.
There was a woman on the today show this morning who had donated her baby's organs that had died and they had her on with one of the babies her daughter had saved, it was extremely moving!

My father also has diabetic kidney disease and is on dialysis 3x a week (started right after my wedding) and waiting for a kidney. He refuses to accept my or my sister's kidneys as well.
