If you want to get a new puppy, I HIGHLY recommend Pets of New Hyde Park. We got our puppy there two weeks and a day ago and she is the best! She was super-healthy and is such a good dog. There are quite a few people who work their and pay close attention to them. There are also lots of people who go in there and play with them.

All pet stores sell puppymill dogs that are sick or come from horrible places.
You may have just gotten lucky your dog wasnt sick, but many many dogs that come from pet stores are, you never see the mills or the tractor trailer that pulls up in the early morning hours to unload those dogs some of who died from the heat from the long journey.

Dont fool yourself...dont buy from pet stores period!

Please go and support your cause elsewhere. I'm sure MOST girls here bought and WILL buy their pets from Pet stores....it's been like that for generations. Puppy mills are horrible, no doubt. Everyone I know gets their animals from Pet stores and they are ALL OK. Bring the damned thing to the vet the NEXT day, get it checked out. I will surely recommend the place I got MY puppy since she's in great health. DH's aunt's dog is in GREAT health.

And please...go find a trailor that pulls up at the wee hours of the morning and try to expose them for television....you make it sound like a movie. This poor girl lost her puppy......find a way to be sorry for her.....not preach to her, me or anyone else about mills!

Im sorry but your post just outraged me. Just because 'everyone gets there dogs from puppy mills' does not make it right. Have you ever seen a full blown puppy mill? Have you ever seen the horrors that go on there? Have you ever seen the 100's of sick and dieing dogs that get pulled out of those situations? How the moms are left for dead once they cannot produce any more puppies? It IS like a horror MOVIE! I work in a rescue that gets these dogs from puppy mills that the spca's break up. And the ones around here arent even the truly bad ones. Those are out west where dogs are kept in wire cages out doors in the blistering heat. Some without food or water for days, meanwhile forced to breed litter after litter.

Did you know that bringing the puppy to the stores recommended 'vet' the next day cannot show you the genetic health problems that will occur when the dog has grown? Alot of puppy mill dogs are inbred so genetic problems will happen that will end up costing thousands as the dog ages. Most common issues that occur later in life are hip dysplasia, luxated knee caps, skin disorders, reaccuring ear infections, etc.

The point of us girls 'supporting our cause' here in this public forum is to educate those who do not realize puppy stores are horrible places. Just because you dont care where your dog came from doesnt mean other people wont care. Truth is most people just dont realize what goes on 'behind closed doors'. But i do, so if i can deter just one person from making that purchase i am happy.

Would you buy a car from a company if you knew their cars had a record of breaking down after 2 years, where you knew of people who had put thousands and thousand of dollars into it just to keep it running, just because 'everyone you knew bought one and the one your aunt bought was fine'? Probably not.. You would go to a company that sold cars with a record of being reliable. Thats what were trying to say here, if you want a purebreed, go a good breeder, with a good health record and reputation. That way these horrible things wont happen to you.

EDIT: I just want to say i do not lack compassion to the OP just because i dont support puppy mills. I feel very bad for anyone who loses a pet no matter the type of pet or the way it was lost. I just want to voice out there that this is common with these store bought dogs. My neighbors dog died of parvo 3 days after she bought it. And being my rescue also has a vet office in it i see and hear these same stories day after day,

Again to the OP i am very sorry for your loss. I lost my old dog this past January. Even though i knew her time was coming due to her age nothing really prepares you for the greif you feel. It is like losing a family member.

I think that you have really made a good and valid point. I think that the OP doesnt need this on a thread about how heartbroken she is right now. In the future when she makes a decsion on when and where to find her next puppy (if she so decides), yes this may help-

But right now. I think she just needs our support and hugs, not a soap box for the anit-puppy mills or pro-puppy stores.

Just to clarify....I'm not talking up puppy stores or making puppy mills out to be an ok place.....all I am trying to say is that this is not the thread to bash one place or another...it's about a poor girl who lost her baby. Some people need to read posts before posting on them and realize that the poster's intention was for support and love, not a speech on why her puppy died.

And i apologize for trying to help educate other people so this does not happen to them. I'm sure the OP does not want anyone else to ever go through whats she is going through. Perhaps if you were not so lucky with your puppy purchase you might have a different point of view. Like the mothers who lose children to drunk drivers so they join MADD and give speeches. Sometimes you dont have any real passion for something, until you are a victim.

Sorry to all, i will stop posting here now, i get very emotional when it comes to the 4 legged.

I am so so sorry for your loss. We lost our family dog this summer, he was very old but old or young it hurts just the same, they become a part of the family.
