OUR RENT!!!!!

FH just called me to tell me we will have to move on May 1. They raised our rent by $550/month!!!! That is soo ridiculous! I love living in Manhattan, but the rent is sooo expensive. Our apartment is a tiny little thing and they want us to pay $2,500/month! Ahhh!!! I guess we are moving to Queens...I really don't want to, but I guess it makes the most sense for us right now. We can't be spending that kind of money when we are trying to save for the wedding.

that *****...i think i will cry the day i have to move out of manhattan..i know itll come soon though...i just love the convience of it all....thats is a lot for rent though

Wow, that is obnoxious. The real estate market is doing really bad, but usually it doesn't matter in Manhattan. We live in Hoboken, FH always thought I was crazy for living in Manhattan. I paid $1500 for a small studio in the east village, which is the size of our Bedroom now.

Wow! That's alot! I live in Bay Ridge (Brooklyn) and pay 1,100 for a large one bed room. It's not manhattan but its still a really nice and safe neighborhood close to the city.

move to astoria! it's only a few stops to manhattan and we love it here.

the rent is cheaper than manhattan prices. decent sized 1 bedrooms average about 1300-1450 these days.

Thats exactly where we want to move to. Do you find its easy to get into the city during the weekends as well? Do the trains run often enough on the weekends?

Yeah the N/W trains out of Astoria are typically pretty good, but even the trains in Manhattan go out of service once in a while on weekends for repairs. I have to say it's very rare though. I've lived here 1.5 years and there was only 1 weekend where no trains were running, but they provided shuttle bus. So that's pretty good. On weekends trains run about every 10 minutes, again it's about the same you'd wait there.

I live at the last stop on the train so I always get a seat and sometimes it goes express which is fabulous! Also, what's great about Astoria is cabs will take you there since it's right off the bridge!

yeah i'm seriously glad my rent is stabilized! it only went up $25 this year. it ***** what you're going through, but it's not unheard of unfortunately...my friend had to move because her rent was being raised by $400 AND it was infested with bugs/mice.

Holy crap!
You guys don't even want to know how cheap housing is out here in Oregon compared to NY!! We have a 2 br, 3 ba 1400 sq ft townhouse for 1200 a month! Definitely one of the reasons we left New York!!

ETA: Im sorry youre in that position though. Hopefully you can find something close to the city thats more affordable and not a hassle! Good Luck!
